The second hop under the spotlight in our brand new series is Nelson Sauvin. A beautifully balanced hop which adds a huge breadth of aroma and flavour to any beer or all on its own as it is in this wonderfully aromatic IPA. A simple grain bill of pilsner malt, oats and wheat with 21 g/L of Nelson on the dry hop. Enticing aromas of honeysuckle, apple pie crust and pink grapefruit follow through on the palate with the addition of ripe gooseberry, medium-dry Riesling and honeydew. Delicate bitterness leads into a melody of lime marmalade and bassy, mellow nectarine.

Pours a hazy light orange with thick, fluffy head.

Smell is juicy and a bit peppery. Notes of grapes, gooseberries, pineapple, orange and grass.

Taste is juicy, intense and a bit sweet and peppery. Notes of gooseberries, grapes, white wine, pineapple, grass and grapefruit. Slightly floral with a soft bitterness. Superb balance.

Mouthfeel is medium, soft, pillowy and well carbonated.

Overall, an outstanding Nelson showcase.

Pours a hazy, bright orange coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and berry notes of white grape and gooseberry, with just a hint of passion fruit as well. Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy hops, with berry and lighter tropical notes of white grape, gooseberry and passion fruit. Finishes with a light bitterness and some white grape and gooseberry lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a really nice single-hopped Nelson NEIPA that shows off the variety really well, with those typical white grape and gooseberry notes really standing out bright and vibrant here, with hints of tropical passion fruit coming through as well, which is something I don't often get from Nelson, to be honest, while there is perhaps just a hint of subtle dankness to this as well. I can always a enjoy a well-made Nelson IPA and this one certainly qualifies, very nice indeed.
