The second instalment of our Fractions Series is a 6.2% IPA. We’ve used a pilsner base with 30% flaked wheat and a touch of dextrin to bring some more fullness and silkiness to the beer. New Zealand hops Riwaka and Waimea are front and centre bringing pithy grapefruit and kumquat, Lemon peel and gentle pine. Some vinous notes and soft herbal bitterness lead out to a bright, mouth-coating fresh orange finish.

Pours a hazy, pale orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of lime lime peel and guava, as well as well as some grassy accents. Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly dank, grassy and resinous hops, with citrus ands tropical notes of tangerine, lime peel, mango and guava, as well as hints of grassy weed and resinous pine. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some lime peel, guava and hints of pine lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for a very nice New Zea(Eng)land IPA that showcases Riwaka and Waimea beautifully, with those zesty lime peel notes almost equalling Motueka here, as well as hints of tropical fruit, resinous pine and dank, grassy weed. There's a great balance of zesty citrus, sweet and slightly acidic tropical fruit, as well as some dank and resinous accents to this, although it feels perhaps just a little light-bodied, with a good mouthfeel though.
