Pours quite dark, with good head production and retention.
Resinous aroma, with pine, spruce, and grapefruit floating atop a dark caramel malt base. A touch of licorice and mild dankness round out the profile.
Flavor definitely favors the hops - as it should, based on the description from the can. Bright and herbal: pine, grapefruit, lemon, grass, and pepper. Malt profile yields licorice, roast, coffee, and little else.
Lively and extremely easy to drink, vastly under-representing the 10% ABV. You would never guess the size of this beer based on the presentation on the palate.

On tap, poured into a tulip. the aroma is bright, sweet and roasted with some figs and a slight crayon (but not in a bad way, more like the reason I wanted to eat them as a child ), and a developing dark chocolate late. It pours a dark mahogany brown color with a faint tan, dense soap head that has good retention and a moderate, messy lace. The taste is a medium, balanced bittersweet. The texture is oily with a prominent fuzz and a medium full body flavored by chocolate and fig with a caramel developig late. The finish is a chocolate syrup that turns over to woody spice with an aftertaste that lightly woody with a spice and a dark, rich chocolate which is long, and near the tail, becomes a bit spicy and clean with some nuts and caramel too. It's almost a porter.
