Came a deep amber infused chestnut brown with a sticky half finger off white head atop, nice color clarity.Big sweet alcohol and raisin in the nose with underlying pine and candied fruit.Like alot of the Weyerbacher 'big' beer this is boozy on the palate, boozy with leatheriness and caramel with a ever so slight sour fruit tinge noticed in the back end underneath the booze. It's hot like I thought it might be with a decent flavor profile underneath it.

On tap at blend. Mason jar.
LOOK: medium brown, small off white head.
AROMA: mild hops, wood, olive oil?
TASTE: hops. Hair spray, sour orange.
FEEL: light bodied.
Ok, no blithering idiot.

Poured from a 12oz bottle (Bottled on 18 Nov 2016, Best By 18 Nov 2021) into a short-stemmed, 13oz Snifter/Tulip glass
A - Pours a slightly hazy, deep gold/burnt orange with a single finger's worth of a creamy, white head with conservative retention. Textbook appearance for something labeled as a Golden Barleywine. (5.0)
S - Although not pungent, it is all about the hops. Pine Resin, Stone Fruit (apricot with hints of overripe peach), Strawberry, Orange Blossom Honey and Caramel make this for something that might be confused with a Double/Triple IPA. Malt sweetness is really restrained and barely present on the nose. (4.25)
T - Malts are strong with sweet caramel upfront but are quickly subdued by the hops which start off with that overripe stone fruit (peach hits first and then apricot) then Strawberry but is followed quickly with a dry, piney/resinous and warming finish. (4.5)
M - Full bodied and palate coating with a nice, creamy carbonation. The dry finish increases its drinkability despite its heft. (4.25)
O - My benchmark for this style is 20 Ton (Two Roads) and Jester's Choice VII is really, really close. My only criticism is that this is a brewery-only release. Big beer, big flavors and a nice alcohol kick make this for a perfect cold-weather beer and proves once again that Weyerbacher can brew big beers well. I would suggest consuming fresh to get the most out of all the hops used in this one! (4.5)
