Dark brown to nearly black in color with minimal light seeping through. There's a fingernail of brown around the rim and covering a quarter of the top. The aroma is of cocoa powder and caramel. I'm tasting chocolate, caramel and a hint of cinnamon. The mouth is smooth and sturdy for the style, offering the right amount of flavor and substantiveness without being unobtrusive.

3/2/18...pours dark brown, still, smidge of brown (light) foam on top. Nutty, woodsy nose, notes of vanilla and colas. Earthy gritty heavily bittered brown. Drowns out any sweetness. Hearty brown.

DATE: March 21, 2018... OCCASION: snowblowing complete, time to enjoy one for tomorrow's delayed opening... GLASSWARE: Orioles mug... pours a hearty, nearly black body that sizzles with a fleeting, simmering off-brown head that becomes a balding island--not much to look at, truth be told... first scent is cola, grape, date, dried fruit--oddly, not much nuttiness or maltiness... sips at a flat, dry, and thin--but heavy finish--like an old-school Weyerbacher, without the alcohol... its sourness is palpable, with a red wine-like astringency... rests heavily at the throat, breathes with some fig, date and other fruits... not feeling this one--and although the date attests its recent birth, I feel I may have to have another one to make sure this one isn't somehow tainted... browns shouldn't have to hurt, especially one with a clever name...

12 oz bottle purchased from the brewery, packaged on 7/28/17.
Deep brown color and opaque but clear around the edges. Big, creamy, light tan head with good retention.
Nutty aroma with chocolate and caramel in the mix. Light earthiness to it from the hops. Mild yet pleasant.
More nuttiness in the flavor, chocolate and lightly roasted malt.
Medium bodied, average carbonation. A slight fizzy feeling to it in the finish, but clean and smooth for the most part. Easy to drink.
I like the restraint used with the hops here. Too many American Brown Ales are overly hopped, but they are there just enough to give a nice earthy balance to this beer. A really enjoyable, mild brown ale from a brewery known for their more high octane offerings.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Dark mahogany brown pour... nearly black with 2 fingers of creamy off-white lacing. Great retention and lacing.
S: Toasted malts and grains.. earthy and caramel sugars.
T/F: Follows the nose... malty with brown sugar and caramel notes. Grainy/earthy. Picking up more cocoa than expected for a brown and a bit of heavier roast and nut. Medium to light in body... effervescent carbonation. Nice hopping for bitterness to clean up the sweet.
O: A pretty solid American Brown Ale. Great flavor... low ABV, and interesting for the style. Solidly done.
