The dark, almost totally black beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 1 1/4” fluffy tan head that leaves an irregular web of patches and a few legs of lacing as it slowly recedes to a thick ring around the glass and thin layer of foam on the surface. Sipping creates a few scattered patches of lacing. By halfway through the beer there’s still some of that web of lacing on the sides of the glass but the layer of foam has receded much further to a small ring around the glass and a thin, irregular island of foam
The aromas are not particularly intense but are dominated by the dark roasted malt and include some dark roast coffee, some dark chocolate and a nice nutty character. There’s also a bit of vanilla in here.
The flavors are much as expected from the nose with the almost burnt roasted flavor filled with dark chocolate, some hazelnut, some coffee, some dark molasses and a bit of vanilla. While there is a noticeable sweetness here there’s also some dark roasted bitterness that is almost, but not quite, burnt.
The mouthfeel is on the full side of medium bodied and creamy smooth with some very finely bubbled carbonation. The finish begins as the sweetness, chocolate, coffee and hazelnut all begin to recede leaving behind a dry, dark roasted bitter ending in the back of the palate.
Overall this is a nice stout that provides lots of dark flavors, i.e., dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, dark molasses, and I’d be happy to have it again. That said for me it’s a one a night beer, not so much because of the ABV, but because the flavors are such that it’s definitely a sipping beer and worth taking an hour or so to finish.

16 oz can
Jet black in color, thick dark tan head. Roasty bitter cocoa aroma. Taste is fairly roasty too. Not too dry though. Medium to thick bodied, fairly smooth.

Infinite Eclipse - Weyerbacher
Blackened American Stout - 7% abv
Canned 3/6/18
Purchased for $2.99 at Monde Market
L - 2 finger hazelnut head recedes in seconds. Body is a translucent dark brown. Light is able to penetrate this one.
S - chocolate, roast, peanut butter, a little booze.
T - roasty chocolate and coffee. A little vanilla and biscuity malt. I don’t think this actually has peanut butter in it but it tastes peanuty. Medium-low bitterness, low sweetness, low booziness.
F - Very light bodied for a stout. Rather watery.
O - this strikes me more as a dark lager than a stout. Flavors are muted, and the body is lacking.

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Weyerbacher tulip glass both given to me by @ jzeilinger one of the finest BAs and traders going. Pours a very near pitch black with a nice two plus finger sticky brown head that leaves big thick streaks of bubbles along the sides of the glass. 4.5
Smell is biscuity grain, cocoa bean, coffee, vanilla, leather, and toffee. 4
Taste follows but better, more roast coffee, cocoa, vanilla, a little biscuit, and toffee. 4.5
Mouthfeel is bigger than medium, plenty of carbonation, a tad dry and that isn’t a complaint, it works very well. 4.25
Overall this is a very nice stout that drinks bigger than 7% but is actually easy enough drinking to have a few. Well done. 4.25
