Daywrecker is an Extra American Ale brewed with Citra and Wakatu hops. The late addition of these hops gives the beer a distinct brightness with their citrusy, floral notes while not overwhelming, rather beautifully balancing the malt sweetness. This heavy hitter comes in around 10% ABV.

Draft at John J. Jeffries in Lancaster PA, Pours a relatively clear golden amber with a thin, off-white head. Initial impression is a lot of bready malts and caramel malt, with a nice balancing dose of citrus and a slight hops bitterness. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and chewy, but not quite syrupy. Alcohol is well hidden. Finish is sweet and sticky. Honestly, I'd categorize this as a DIPA. Overall, an impressive and quite drinkable offering from Weyerbacher.

Poured from a 12-oz can into pint glass in October 2018. Canned-on date of 05/01/18 listed on the can, and drank less than 1 month after purchase.
Appearance: Deep gold body with thick light-tan head. Beer is a bit cloudy like most APAs. Head is very thick, and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.
Smell: Huge aroma filled with a strong hops aroma, and includes citrus, orange, pepper, and pine smells. A little more sweet than some other IPAs or APAs. The aroma filled the area as soon as I opened the can.
Taste: There is a noticeable hops flavor, as expected from an American Pale Ale. There is strong bite from the hops along with other flavors like citrus, but the hops bitterness is not overpowering. This is not as bitter as some other APAs. The aftertaste provides a variety of flavors over time. Not overly bitter or hoppy, and has a nice balance.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Strong alcohol, which matches the 10.0% posted on the label.
This is a smooth strong-bodied beer, that is easy to drink. It is a good APA, and is very well balanced. The aftertaste is really enjoyable. I would definitely drink this again.

From the 16 oz can dated 043018. Sampled on Aug 23, 2018.
It pours a cloudy looking pale yellow-amber with a generous foamy white head that lingers and laces,
The booze is notable in the aroma right away with a citrus or lemon zest character right after that. Some sourdough breaded malts.
Medium to full mouthfeel.
The alcohol can be detected in the flavor too but it does not seem as harsh as in the aroma. Otherwise the taste has the same sort of citrus and lemon zest characters with a slightly herbal or peppery quality following. Moderate bitterness to finish.

Look: It pours hazy orange with an off white pillow head. Head retention is quite good.
Smell: It has a strong citrus aroma with plenty of orange notes. In addition there are some floral notes with some that border on being flowery. There are alcohol notes in the nose as well.
Taste: The flavors have strong citrus with orange highlight. There are some bready notes with a bit of caramel. The alcohol is quite noticeable in the flavor. The floral notes are well in the background.
Feel: It has a moderately heavy feel the is slightly syrupy with a moderate bitter and alcoholic after taste. The alcohol warming is quite pleasant with a slight touch of hot.
Overall, this is quite an interesting strong ale with malt elements becoming more prominent in the taste, but not so much in the aroma. For the high alcohol content, it is quite easy for the most part going down.

Pours a very hazy light copper with a finger of white head. The nose is very piney. The flavor is super citrusy with plenty of hop bitterness on the finish.
This one is definitely a sipper.

This is a beer much greater then the sum of its parts. For starters the look is not a pretty color (I actually hate this color) but it is very opaque which is my preferred ipa look. Aroma and taste is bready malts and honey, very smooth, not boozy at all. Actually, for a brewery "not known for their ipas" Double Simcoe is one of my favorite all time regular beers. Another review noted Weyerbacher is known for their stouts? Reality check, their stouts stink, especially the boozy mess SMS. And I'm not sure about the 14 different flavors from a reviewer I respect, just don't get 14 flavors out of this. And, yes, my palate can pick up every known flavor to man. Sometimes I think the things we read around here, well, I know my own drunken thoughts ... on a good day.
Bottom line this is really good, very strong and enjoyable Saturday afternoon before dinner drink. Now bring back Slam Dunkel (yes, look it up people, the best beer this brewery's ever made) ...

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 5/1/2018. Pours moderately hazy golden orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Lightly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is an awesome DIPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV with the modestly bitter/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Great Citra/Wakatu hop showcase. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy balanced hops complexity; nice bready malt backbone, not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, loved the hop profile as expected. Really well done DIPA for the big ABV.

This was kind of a boozy mess. Some citrus notes and malt. But overwhelming alcohol. At 10% I guess to be expected but this was one to have when you aren’t doing anything else. End of the night but not a favorite. I have 4 16 oz cans and have had two of them. Not a favorite but glad I tried.
