crystal clear and golden in color with a nice head of white that rose up and over the top, settling down nicely with bit of a broken head that hung around on the sides of the glass for just a little bit before fading in its entirety. Aroma was light at first but began to grow on me after a while. Smooth notes of light grain, hints of grassy notes and a light bit of bready tones are al easily picked up here now. Crisp and very clean taste. Well carbonated with a light and refreshing body that I really found to be quite enjoyable I have to admit. Rolling through it seemed to have a light fruit notes in the mid palate and a light, slightly drying kick in the finis

Pours a mud puddle brown color with an average off-white head that left no lacing. The smell is disappointing, smells like champagne grapes. No banana or clove detected, none of the nice mellow aromas of a typical hefe. The taste is unfortunately the same. Kind of a sharp champagne taste that sucks the moisture from your mouth, nothing that vaguely reminds me of a hefe. The feel is watery and dry. A very disappointing hefe, probably one of the worst that I have had. Not sure this would even be good for an American Wheat beer. I don't recommend this brew.

Poured a cloudy dark straw hue with a two finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smel featured mild yeast esters and a defined tart lemon aroma.

The taste was upfront lemon tartness with a sudtle mouthy wheat malt backbone. No trace of banana or clove.

The mouthfeel was light and astringent.

Overall not a very impressive hefe. Many better examples available.

I recently picked up a 1/2 barrel ar the brewery for 1/2 price ($55) since it's out of season now.
Poured quick out of my tap which caused a thick foamy head. Took a few minutes to finalize into a thin layer of foam suspended above the body of the beer.
Appearance: Golden color, translucent, thick foam(upon pouring).
Smell:Traditional banana and some clove is present. Doesn't smell as sweet as other Hefeweizens I've had. Smells slightly earthy.
Taste: At first the beer is bitter and hoppier than I thought. Yeast flavors hit my mouth and follow with alcohol that is somewhat warming. It seems like they were trying to go for a crispness that didn't quite get accomplished.
Mouthfeel: Very little carbonation hits my mouth immediately and quickly fades. Bitterness remains after I swallow the beer.
Drinkability: This beer is average. I expected more from Weyerbacher, as they have shown great improvements in the last year or so. I could drink quite a few of these because they do slip down easily.
Since I have a whole barrel at my disposal, I will be drinking this beer for the next few months. I usually do all my beer drinking on weekends so it will be a feat to finish the barrel. Overall, an average beer.

This beer came a solid, cloudy orange and gold with a thin film of egg shell white.

Smelled of sour dirty bread yeast with an orange citrus. If I squinted just right, I found a clove or two.

Tasted of doughy bread and popcorn with a sour dirty yeast. There’s also an orange and lemon with a touch of clove bringing this way more on par to style than the smell.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a full mouth of bubbles.

This one was a little different for the style, but the more I drank it, the more it grew on me.

This beer pours a cloudy golden honey with a white frothy head. Nice looking,but the head does disappear quickly. The smell is strong wheat, clove, banana, and a sweet malt. The taste is a little tart with lemon, clove, banana, and a wheat flavor. The flavors are OK,but it's tough to get over the enesial tartness. The m/f is light with the flavors mixing not that well. I really expected more from this beer.

Poured 12 oz bottle.

Appearance: A light caramel color which was darker than I would expect from a hefeweizen. Thin head that dissapated quickly. No lacing to speak of (could be my glass?).

Smell: What you would expect from a hefeweizen - banana with some spice. The aroma begin with a spicy character and finishes with banana bread and a bit of nuttiness.

Taste: Strong up front sourness that finishes somewhat sweet. Lacking in character, not overly impressing.

Mouthfeel: Thin to medium body, could be more carbonated.

Drinkability: I generally like the sourness of hefeweizen's but this is strange. A little too much for me and lacking in complexity. I can't see myself drinking more than one at a time.

I always worry when I don't have the right glass for drinking a beer, especially with a hefe, notorious for its untamed head. When I poured this beer however, I just had to check to make sure I had read the bottle right. There was only half a finger of head, which was gone entirely within 15 seconds, leaving absolutely no lace or film. The bottle states "unfiltered", and again I had to recheck that, since this beer is crystal clear. It has a much more golden color than I was expecting. The smell is a sharp garlic-y yeast smell, with a bit of malt back and perhaps a slight hint of hops. It actually smelled kind of like a Chinese dumpling. The taste was very sharp and citriusy, lots of lemony hints, again a bit of a garlic-y taste, and a touch of regular old bread yeast. The mouthfeel was decent enough, if not a bit over-carbonated, but really mostly suited for real hot-weather cool down drinking. It's drinkable in so far as it goes down easy (maybe too easy) and is not overly offensive. Not a good Hefe, however. I probably won't be reccomending this to anyone soon

Appearance: Pourded from the bomber into my Schneider Hefe Glass – a full three inch foam starts my mouth awaterin’ - looks good and I am ready...

Smell: No Banana or Clove from this baby, not really much of anything to apeak of for a nose - I am a bit disappointed here.

Taste: A little bit of citrus and a slight hint of sourness make their way across the tongue - with flavors like this, a little hops would be nice, but they are nowhere to be found

Mouthfeel: Less carbonation on the tongue than I would like – very light body, a bit thin ...

Drinkability: I could drink this all day, but not if i wanted to drink a nice Hefe Weizen. I think the americans have been doing a great job of providing an alternative to German Wheats and most have upped the hops a bit, which I like. Nothing much of to speak of here – no reason to buy this over the German’s or other americans, that is for certain.

Poured into an Aventinus glass.

This beer has trouble with its head. On this pour, it didn't form one at all. In the past, even when pouring far more vigorously than other Hefes could stay in the glass, it raises a thin, short-lived, and very large bubbled head. It's deep golden yellow, but not as hazy as I would like. The nose is of aromatic yeast, sweet wheat, the biscuity odorthat I've been loving in my choices lately, and a lemony tang. The taste is more restrained than the nose, but is still very wheaty and citrusy. It's a little bitter in the middle, but finishes with a sweet citric taste. The carbonation is good, and the body is medium. I still wish it had more yeast to thicken it up. The drinkability is high because this simply tastes good, although not what I expect in a traditional hefe.

This is a typical American stab at the Hefe-Weizen style. Nothing glamour here just a tasty drinkable Hefe IMO.

Appearance: Pours a golden orange color with a two finger white head.

Smell: Typical banana cloves and lemon smell, with a bit of malt underneath to give it a backbone.

Taste: Solid flavors. I like that the flavors are not shy but it is certainly banana clove front, melon malty middle and lemon wheat yeast finish with a light lemon aftertaste. Straightforward Hefe.

Mouthfeel: There is actually a decent backbone to this Hefe-Wiezen -- a bit chewy through the center; nice.

Drinkability: This is a very drinkable summer beer apropos for the style.

Appearance:

Pours a murky brownish yellow, almost the color of dark urine with little to no head.

Smell:

Oddly burnt citrus aroma with offputting spices predominates.

Taste/Mouthfeel:

Tart, insipid citrus characteristics with no malt or wheat presence at all. This is a hefeweizen? This is going down the drain.

22oz bottle purchased at Marty's in Allston for $4. Poured into a pint glass.

This beer pours a nice caramel color with a very quickly receding soda-like head. The smell is sweet, fruit, and inviting, almost like a Belgian-style beer. The taste is pretty mellow: a little sweet and yeasty, with a subtle spicy overtones. This is definitely not a classic Hefe, but it is pleasant nonetheless. It is relatively full-bodied for the style. I like it.

A - Poured a nice hazy amber color with very little head that quickly dissapated leaving no lace and no foam what so ever. Very little going on in the way of visual stimulation with this beer.

S - The clove and banana flavors are mixed in with a nail polish like flavor that might be described as phenolic. There is also a little bit of cardboard in there.

T - the sweetness of the wheat takes off onto the palette followed by a little bit of some bad cider and some band aid flavor. It is very little off flavor but it is there.

M - Sharp carbination is what starts off the tounge . There is some slickness to it but it isnt unappealing.

D - This is a very middle of the road Hefe that I wouldnt mind drinking again. But I wont go looking for it.

A fairly mild interpretation of the style -worth a try for sure. Pours a hazy pale orange with a health sticky white head. Aroma is fruity some similarities to that of a belgian trippel. Some banana and faint cloves. Flavor is mild yeast, some definite bready wheat notes and a trickle or two of sweet malt. Hops assert themselves with a profile reminiscent to that a wet green leaves. Aftertaste is fruity and spicy. Overall a mild interpretation of a hefe. I will likely try this again as the weather heats up.

22oz. bomber bottle with this beautiful label of an artist's painting of 5 people standing in a wheat field starring up at this wavy blue sky with a bright yellow/orange sun shining down on them. It's a great picture and if you want to see it up close, go to their website. I have a feeling this is last years vintage. I read that it's released in late spring and this is early spring. Probably makes this almost a year old. Hopefully it didn't go bad.

Appearance: When I poured it into my Weizen glass (of course), the beer was this light golden/orange color. When I poured it, I got the usual massive head of white foam, but this one dissipated very fast leaving no sign of lace or rings.

Smell: It had a tart aroma (not skunky) of citrus fruits, with the lemon being the most predominate of the citrus fruits. After that I noticed an unpleasant aroma of burnt hops or caramel (something burnt) in the background. Everything but the burnt smell was good.

Taste: In the beginning, I noticed a strong taste of very tart fruits, like lemons, grapefruit, and even apples. I couldn't taste any bananas in this one. After all the tartness of the fruits, there was a slight taste of spicy wheat/grains in the back. It's a good thing I didn't taste any of that burntness that was in the smell. It had an ok taste, but it didn't have the usual HefeWeizen taste. Very unusual.

Mouthfeel: Light and with a tart aftertaste.

Drinkability: Definitely not the best HefeWeizen out there, but Is worth a try if you like Weyerbacher and unusual HefeWeizens.

Cloudy grapefruit juice color, with a small white head that leaves a ring around the glass. So hazy. Smell is sweet and spicey, peppery, with light banana and a nuttyness to it. Apricot maybe?

Taste is very cider-remnant, has a champagne-like quality. Some apple, apricot, tart and dry. Simple. Mouthfeel has a slightly chewy beginning with a dry finish- a bit blah. Still, not a bad brew by any means. Fruity and light, relatively easy to drink.
