Reviewed from notes taken March 2015 (shortly after Last Stand's opening).

English IPA. 6.5% ABV. This is their production IPA brewed with English yeast. 80 IBU.

HEAD: None. No lacing.

BODY: Clear vibrant copper colour. Clean, lacking any visible yeast/lees or sediment (obviously filtered).

Appealing for the style, but not unique or special within the style.

AROMA: English yeast character is showcased nicely. Pale malts, 2-row, some light touches of buttery character (possibly indicative of diacetyl off-flavour), and mild herbal hop aromatics.

Malts are emphasized ovr hops, with light toastiness coming through.

Generally appealing but seemingly shallow, and certainly light in terms of aromatic intensity.

No off-notes or alcohol are/is detectable.

TASTE: A nice albeit basic build. Malt-emphatic. English yeast. Hints of buttery flavour. Pale malts. 2-row. Herbal and floral hop flavours.

Balanced but painfully simple and shallow, lacking any intricacy or depth of flavour whatsoever.

I like it for what it is, and it has a nice clean finish.

Tastes like a well-executed homebrew, lacking nuance, subtlety, and complexity but also any off-flavours. Cohesive in build but far from impressive.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, clean, lightly buttery, light to medium-bodied, slightly overcarbonated.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, or scratchy.

Complements the taste decently but fails to elevate the beer as a whole or to accentuate specific flavours.

OVERALL: Highly drinkable but pedestrian and forgettable. It's very basic/rudimentary, akin to a homebrewed beer. What you'd expect from a new small batch brewery. Above average yet unremarkable.
