Served in a shaker pint glass at the brewpub.
According to the flatscreen at the end of the bar, I missed out on a roggenbier they brewed for the Hallowe'en season, but I did make it in in time to try the rebirth of the rye stout. It pours a straight onyx topped by a couple fingers of dirty brown foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, light coffee, and toast. The taste brings in more of the same, with a light coating of cocoa (almost devil's food cake-like). The body is a straight medium, with a very light moderate carbonation, a smooth feel, and a sorta/kinda dry finish. Overall, a very nice stout, even if the rye doesn't seem to fully express itself. Good times.

The brewery says it's similar to an oatmeal stout, but the oatmeal is replaced with rye to make it a little spicier. It is also carbonated with nitrogen for a nice cascading head.
It is a beautiful dark, dark brown color with excellent head. Smells great, spicier than most stouts. Very distinctive.
Flavor is awesome, again spicier than your usual oatmeal stout.
Mouthfeel is good, smooth and medium-bodied.
I really wish this was available more often, even in bottles so that more people could try it. A very drinkable and distinctive beer.
Tasted on 3/1/08.
