Served in a pint glass at Mickey Finn's

I'm not sure why it took me so long to get around to reviewing this beer. In all honesty I'm fairly certain it's the first chance I've had to review it as I spend most of my time here drinking the new submissions from Mickey Finn's.

Well this beer is served a nice clear amber color with an ecru foam that doesn't appear too hardy. The aromatics are rather hoppy, which I must admit was a surprise to me. The one thing I however don't smell is rye. Upon actually tasting the beer I can taste, what I believe to be Amarillo, hops and the bittering hops as well. Though all I taste is malted barley. I swear at one point in time or another this beer used to taste like rye. Perhaps under the relatively new management the recipe has changed. Or more likely my tastes have changed. Either way this is still a decent beer, but it's nothing really note worthy. It simply tastes like a hardy beer, it drinks decent, but it doesn't really compare to the other offerings of the night. It's good, but mediocre at the same time.

I had a couple of these during my visit to the brewpub. Served in a standard pint, the beer is dark brown with some garnet highlights, there is a quickly collapsing tan head.

The aroma is of some dark fruit, mildly roasted malts and maybe if you strain a bit of rye.
The taste is a bit more amped-up then the smell would lead you to believe. The roasted notes are more forthright, there is a some raisins and plums all followed by a bit of spicy rye.

The mouth is just above average and the same with drinkability. All-in-all, a decent stab at something a little different.

An opaque reddish-brown color. Tan foam lasted for a bit and left some spotty lace at the sides. Murky appearance. Dull, nondescript malt aroma with little hint of rye. Taste had more rye presence, but was far from flavorful. Mostly grains with a light hit of fruit from the ale yeast. Full bodied with low carbonation. A chore to put down, unfortunately. This was also available on cask, but I opted for another beer afterwards.

(Served in a flat-sided glass mug)

A- This beer pours a hazy dense reddish-brown body with a thick sticky bubbly heat of light beige that last for a good bit. There is a good carbonation of tiny bubbles.

S- This beer has a malty aroma with a slightly toasted malt note and some caramel malt notes increasing as the beer warms. There is a pine hop note in the finish.

T- This beer has a fruity malt flavor with a nice sweetness to the caramel qualities and a spicy rye taste that blends into the green hop finish that turns more citrus and piney as the beer warms. There is a light marshmallow yeasty note that gets stronger and mixes with the malt flavors as the beer warms.

M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with no alcohol heat and a tight fizz cleaning the finish.

D- This beer has some good flavors and would make a nice smooth session beer with a nice complement of rye and hops. As the beer warms the malt flavors grow as the hop flavors get covered up.
