Large OTOP 25.4oz bottle split with my brother, Scorpio77.

Absolutely incredible pour with a very dark brown, almost black color with red tinges and cream/tanish (mildly dark tan) head.

Smell - MOCHA! Wow, this is perhaps the nicest beer I've ever smelled in my life.

Taste - overwhelmingly delicious. This is like a coffee, chocolate, mocha and dark beer lovers dream. One of the finest combinations of flavors I've ever encoutered out there. The continuous smell of mocha throughout, which really helps out the overall appeal to this beer.

Mouthfeel - tastes great, and goes down smooth while really feeling good in the process. It is rather sweet - so, I would urge people to lookout for this. (If sweet beers are your thing - this is for you here).

Overall - This is a very drinkable beer, but I am not sure how this can be aged for the longhaul. I would definitely buy them if you see them, no reason not to try this one.

Incredible brew from truly excellent brewers.

As a note - 1/2 way through this beer I ordered a case! Yeah, it really is that good.

Cheers.

Appearance – 750 ml bottle from Spirits Unlimited, glad I got to grab the latest bunch of OTOP beers (and Barrel-Aged Old Salty) before Heavyweight closes their doors. This one pours dark brown bordering on black with clear red highlights. The head is tan and creamy and last for most of the drink.

Smell – Loads of rich cocoa powder with light spicy hops. There is a bready, caramel backbone that supports everything. Not much in the way of yeast contribution. At first I got a funky bean like undercurrent (Having nothing to do with the fact that I just learned that they use roman beans in Perkuno's Hammer and even though this batch is apparently not from the second runnings of said beer), but after a few minutes it vanished.

Taste – Starts of rich with hints of chocolate and caramel, but finishes rather dry and slightly bitter. There is a note of diacetyl in the middle, but it actually goes well with the flavors. Not as crisp or hoppy as a traditional Schwarzbier, but its actually similar to other American interpretations that I have had.

Mouthfeel – Prickly carbonation on top of a light body.

Drinkability & Notes – I had no problem polishing the entire bottle off by myself in an evening. I was always remiss that I had missed the original release of this beer, so I'm happy I got a chance to catch it the second time around. Certainly not the traditional Schwarzbier, but its delicious, so who cares. I might say that this is the most complex beer under 5%, but I'll have to think about that. Regardless, this is a great Schwarzbier from a great brewery that will be sorely missed by me.
