Another mind-numbing creation from Heavyweight. This one is an iced version of their barleywine old salty. This one is a glowing light brown colour with a small ring of white lave that does not last long but tries to cling on for dear life. The aromas are all over the place. Sweet enligh malts and leafy green hops, candy, dark fruits, oak, bourbon, and sweet gummies! Talk about an eXtreme beer! The taste is exceptional. Sweet, but not overly cloying, with a lovely huge malt profile that includes flavors of pears, sherry, rum soaked raisins, and more. This one is really almost too complex for me to write about. Mouthfeel is thick, and palate coating delviring flavor to every inch of your tongue and the drinkability is good, but it is hurt a bit by the insanely HUGE profile of this brew. Man, oh man is this stuff good!

This beer is a hazy amber with hints of orange and cherry. The small-to-medium head has a smooth foaminess that's broken by a few good-sized bubbles, and soon subsides. The sweet aroma is syrupy, and carries hints of vanilla creaminess.
I take a sip and... HOLY S**T!!! The taste is HUGE, salty, and heavy! The dense wave of flavor is like a freight train hitting my palate. The saltiness is utterly overwhelming in the beginning, and although I don't notice it as much later on it's still quite distracting. This really needs a powerful food pairing to dilute its potency. I'm eating a rich piece of sweet, fruity cake which does a decent job. The flavor is cloyingly alcoholic, but even that is overpowered by the tangy saltiness. I can't even begin to call this drinkable, although if you have an iron constitution I can imagine you'd be warmed by one of these on a hideously cold night. Perhaps I don't understand the style, but I know an unbalanced beer when I taste it. When I taste that much salt, it makes me wonder what they're trying to hide.
