The brewery that makes this beer is brand new, and is the third micro or nano brewery to open in Butte, Montana, with another set to open very soon. This would make three new breweries opening this winter and spring. A fourth brewery, the Quarry, has been open for several years now, and a distillery has been running several years with plans to expand.
Poured from a growler into a shaker pint. A moderate pour produces 1/2 to 3/4 inch of a creamy white head the reduces quickly but proves sticky enough. The beer is moderately dark ruddy amber color with about average carbonation.
The aroma is very light, hinting at some earthy hops a maybe a little dark fruit. The flavor is of bready malts with dark fruit, molasses and herbal notes and just a smidgeon of banana ester and maybe even a little barnyard funk that lingers on the tongue along with a good dose of earthy bitterness. The mouth feel is middling and commensurate with the style.
After sharing some of this with friends, several of us agreed that this beer tastes a bit like banana bread, which we all enjoyed. A very good to borderline excellent brew from the new kids on the block.
