Small head but rim bubbles remain. Small spots on the glass after each sip. Deep dark brown where no light passes through.

Charcoal aroma with weaker Baker's chocolate in the background.

The taste begins like a Porter but ends with an ashen, bitter black patent malt. Moderate body with a higher big-bubbled carbonation. There's a burnt bitterness to the finish and aftertaste.

Tried both the barrel-aged version and cask offering with cocoa nibs and coffee. The BA version was pretty lackluster, not exhibiting much wood or barrel character at all. But the proper stout qualities were there. The cask was really nice, being heavy on the coffee and super smooth.

from a 1/2 growler into a pint tulip
look; as black a dark brown can possibly be, 3/4" pale milk chocolate head that very slowly reduces to a covering that stays forever for all intensive purposes
smell; malty toasted oatmeal, very nice but not too powerful
taste;in your face roasted malt, maybe mixed with a little burnt malt, molasses oatmeal, hops, a little plain old sugar and caramel, delicious
feel; full bodied slightly creamy medium bitter carbonated smooth, just right
overall; a nice loaded up stout with everything a stout should be and more of it, an american stout

Thanks to JLindros for sharing.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown black hue with a good mocha head that fades to leave thin wisps.

S - Aromas of strong roasted malts, light chocolate, light oats.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, loads of roast, almost acrid burnt roast and light coffee. The chocolate is soft though a little bitter. Very roasty.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, lightly creamy, almost a big bitter.

O - Overall this beer was good, quite, good roast, nice light chocolate.

Pour at the brewery.

Bug creamy thick dark head, fades slowly nice lacing, pitch black beer.

Nose lots of roast and black malts, toasty, with roasty, little fudgey note in the background, little caramel, creamy oats I think, touch of roasted coffee.

Taste brings more roasted malts, lots of toasted malt characters, with roasted malt, little coffee, and black malts, but not acrid or burnt thankfully. Gets a little fiery roast, with touch of super dark chocolate fudgey note, little carafa like fluffy nougat, and some caramel. Then earthy hops, little spicy as well with nice bitterness party from the roasty malts too. Touch of warming booze. Finish is dry but a little sticky, nice lingering toasty toasty malt, nice earthy spicy hop, and little char as dark choc.

Mouth is fuller bod, little creamy note, nice carb, lush and full.

Overall pretty nice, best beer I've had yet from then, very well done. Nice dark roasty malts without the burnt acrid flavours or bad additives, hops actually blend well when I wasn't expecting it. Quite tasty.
