i'm reviewing the growler i got earlier today, you could add 1/4 point for at the brewery, everything is just that much better right out of the tap. poured into an english pub glass (it works)
look; black with a big head that dissipates quickly leaving lacing. with backlighting it is black with a hint of chestnut
smell; malted milk, butterfinger (malty carmely milky chocolaty), slight bitter note that may be hops
taste; that light bitter smell was hps, but they don't make a big statement, just round out the beer/take the edge off the malty candiness. well roasted malt, toffee, malted milk balls
feel; smooth, very smooth, a hint of carbonation
overall; a very delicious lager with stoutish tendencies, jack's abbey would probably bill this as a lout or a stagger
