At Mug Shots in Jackson, MS, returning from our Colorado trip.
LOOK: Purchased 22 0z on tap. Received with nearly no head, did show some side glass lace. Color was dark brown with red tints.
AROMA: On the sweet side with malts of caramel, chocolate and coffee.
TASTE: Dark chocolate, creamy mouth feel. Pretty tasty!

Alt-ered State has a thick, beige head of foam, a semi-clear, brown appearance, some enthusiastic bubbles, and minimal glass lacing. Aroma is of oddly sour brown bread, mustiness, tannins, and nut oil. Taste is of all those elements, with a strange yeast zing and even more sourness and tart action. Some Levi Garrett tobacco, too. Mouthfeel is high medium, and Alt-ered State finishes dry, but in an unusual manner. RJT

It poured a hazy brownish amber with a nice white head. The smell is malty and a hi t of coffee to it. Taste is a nice malty goodness with a sweetness to it, feel is medium. Overall a well made drink and a enjoyable drink for the evening.

Dark brown color with red tints, light khaki cap and lace.

Aroma is a subtly sweet rich dark malt with hints of chocolate and dark fruit. Don't really detect hops.

Taste is dark, rich, chocolaty malt with just a hint of sweetness in the background. Hop level is mild enough that it can be overlooked. Also a lack of any alcohol presence even though this relatively simple brew clocks in at 6.4 ABV. Finish is clean with malty richness lingering in the aftertaste.

Medium creamy texture with balancing carbonation.

Just a few flavor choices and not terribly complex, yet it's as beautifully textured as a high quality black and white photo. It's takes a sure hand to create a brew so deceptively simple because there're no heavy flavorings or hops to conceal brewing mistakes. This one is nigh faultless.

First had on draft into pint tumbler. This beer, which has been listed at 3.89, 6.00 and 6.40 ABV, is an intriguing second wider-distribution offering from Natchez Brewing.
