On tap at Sand City 10/9/16. This is currently aging in Bourbon barrels at the brewery. The taste lends itself more to a BBA stout base than a stand alone stout, but it's still quite good.

On tap at Sand City Brewing, Rebellion pours pitch black color with a small tan head that faded quickly and left minimal spotty lacing. Typical stouts looks, but the head was a tad light - may have been the pour, so rating as I got it served to me.

Smells of burnt coffee, soy sauce, molasses, brown sugar, dark chocolate, burnt fire wood, roasted grains, dark fruit and a general toasted malt finish. Sweet and roasty in a balanced way, it covers the ABV up masterfully and was very nice to inhale.

Tastes like sweet dark chocolate, light char or ash, burnt coffee grinds, soy sauce, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, cocoa powder, burnt wood, roasted grains, dark fruit like raisins, dates and plum, light piney hops, peat moss and vanilla extract. Malt dominant yet hoppy enough and full of fruit to make it balanced and very complex.

Mouthfeel is roasty, creamy and smooth with a slight charred bitterness, a nice chewy feel and mild carbonation that slides down easier than it should since it clocks in at 10.5%. Finish is dry and leaves what seems like a cocoa powder coating in your mouth. Really damn enjoyable overall, I could have this any time of year.

10/08/2017-Had a glass from the cask at the brewery on the 2nd anniversary and it was really damn smooth and tasty. "Overall" score raised from 4.25 to 4.5, bumping the "Rating" from 4.16 to 4.24. This beer was meant for aging and I've been lucky to have it every time it's come out. This is a beer to track down as Sand City keeps making adjustments and improvements on it. Seek it out.
