Just a splendid extreme beer. Inky black pour that is syrupy thick. Scents of baker's chocolate, roasted coffee bean and toasted coconut tantalize the nose. Flavors are intense and this is a bold beer. As it warmed the coconut and coffee became more pronounced. Very enjoyable beer.

A: Pours slow, black, and viscous. Head is a dark and sandy toffee, 1F thickness. Retention was OK, but attractive while it lasted.
S: Chopped pieces of Milky Way, chocolatey ribbons of fudge, caramel swirl, brownie pieces, Turtles candy. Now, temper all this sweetness by mixing it with some good cold shot espresso, and freezing it into some heavenly dessert hash. The coconut is not tropical by any measure, but exhibits a mature toasted character of sandalwood and vanilla. A little alcohol heat; it's definitely not not there; a little katsu.
M: Thick and full bodied. Slight chewiness, definitely a beer designed for sipping as you might choke on a full mouthful.
T: I understood this beer best as a decadent chocolate-first stout with other additions to enhance the experience. A brash in your face chocolate fudge brownie butter studded with dark chocolate chips; but, what would any good chocolate bar be without fruity undernotes? Strawberry, huckleberry along with hints of unripe banana--made sweet by a dip in caramel. Some floral, nutty, and peat like earth expression as well that exceeds a mild Maillard to more of a char. The espresso powder and coconut really amplifies the chocolate into richer, darker, death by chocolate experience; the caramel defines the sweetness, the espresso confines it with some astringency, the coconut adds a bit of a floral flourish.

Released today, this pours as black as ink with a foamy 2 finger thick brown colored head that dissipated slowly and left excellent lacing all over the glass. After each sip there's residue coating the glass. My initial whiff is all chocolate, with dark chocolate, cocoa powder, bakers chocolate, chocolate syrup, brownie batter, nutty notes, caramel and molasses. It is really rich smelling and not as complex as I thought it would be.
The taste has the same explosive chocolate attack up front, but there's burnt coffee grinds, smoked malts or car, brown sugar, soy sauce, peat moss and a dash of vanilla mixed with the dark chocolate, cocoa powder, bakers chocolate, chocolate syrup, brownie batter, nutty notes, caramel and molasses. The finish is nutty with earthy aspects and flavors like fudge or burnt chocolate brownies. No sign of the coconut, but hopefully there will be some in the next can. The ABV is very well hidden, although the effects of the booze hit my system quickly.
One of the things I like best about this brew is that it's hearty and thick, like a tough stout that is meant for sipping. Mild bitterness, a solid heavy viscosity and good texture made this very enjoyable to drink slowly. Another great stout collaboration from Sand City.
