Bottled 03/24/22: Pours pitch black color like ink with a small brown head that faded and left minimal spotty lacing. Smells of dark chocolate, vanilla, charred wood, bourbon, bakers chocolate, molasses, brownie batter, cocoa powder, brown sugar and minerals or sheet metal. It’s not a sweet nose and surprising that the alcohol is faint since this was just released.
Tastes of caramel, bourbon, dark chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses, peat moss, smoked grains, burnt coffee grinds, toffee, charred wood, faint black licorice, oaky notes, hints of floral hops, Hershey’s chocolate syrup and rich malty aspects as it fades. The flavor was not cloying and gave off a lot of nice malty complexities while completely masking the ABV. It was super smooth feeling, almost creamy even, with no ABV bite and a nice ashy, dry finish. In a blind taste test you would never guess this was a 13% ABV beer that was bottled a few weeks ago. An impressive stout.
