Appearance - Pours a medium nut brown with three fingers of foamy tan head.

Smell - Roasty and toasty malts, nutty aromas (thinking walnut), earthy hops, hint of caramel.

Taste - Roasty and toasty malts for sure, but the nuttiness is a little subdued compared to the aroma. Hops add a mild earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. A little thin on the palate.

Overall - A standard English nut brown ale from the folks at Coulee Brew Co. I like my nut browns to be a little more nuttier in flavour and to have a bit of a fuller body, but I could see this being a refresher on the Bear's Hump trail in Waterton National Park.

355ml can poured into tulip 29/4/17

A clear ruby red when held to the light, lots of tiny bubbles feeding a finger of foam that falls after a few sips leaving a couple partial rings

S cocoa powder, nutella spread, dark bread, some leafy notes, and a hint of dried dark fruit

T a hint of cold coffee, earthy, leafy notes, not that far from the nose

M lighter side of medium, softens up stopping short of cream, fairly dry finish with some leafy cocoa lingering

O decent but nothing sets it apart from the rest of the pack, no complaints but it doesn't stick out anywhere either

I though their red ale drank darker then this but respectable nonetheless

355ml can - 'at the end of the trail, it is the perfect post Hump brew'. Huh, I really don't know what the hell they are referring to, but I hope it has something to do with it being after Wednesday (hey, Odin, glad to see you back!).

This beer pours a clear, bright medium bronzed amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, slightly rocky, and mildly bubbly tan head, which leaves some decent sudsy archipelago lace around the glass as things evenly subside.

It smells of bready and grainy caramel malt, a touch of biscuity toffee, some pithy nuttiness, weak damp ashy notes, subtle cafe-au-lait, and very tame leafy, weedy, and dank floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a still uncertain nutty character, ephemeral char, weak day-old mocha coffee, and more understated earthy, grassy, and leafy verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is average in its palate-prodding frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a wee airy creaminess trying oh so hard to get off of the ground at the moment. It finishes trending dry, the mild smokiness pushing up against the lingering malt.

Overall, this is an enjoyable enough version of the style, nice and malty, with a nutty essence that is almost too legit to quit. Worthy of trying out, especially if you aren't expecting the American version of an off-setting hop onslaught.
