355ml bottle poured into tulip 24/8/15
A clear copper liquid with plenty of tiny slow bubbles feed a thumbs width of foam that falls to a collar leaving a couple partial rings
S herbal, leafy, and citric hops, lots of caramel and faint nutty notes, some dark cracker, grainy and has a hand full of pennies thing going on
T still has that metallic thing going on, some wet tea bag, a little spice, not really far from the nose but I think the smell has a slight edge
M medium bodied and it takes a moment for the bubbles to come to life, mild bitter bite, very slick after the fact with metallic grains lingering
O not bad but a little room for improvement, has some balance and its easy enough to drink though
I'm not blown away but its a respectable first offering and I'll be looking for more from this new local

Purchased a six of this in Okotoks, where it may or may not be brewed. An enjoyable hoppy hop and malty malt (read the can, it's true) beer. My curiosity is satisfied - not sure if I will be back for this one.

Tasting notes: Curious description on the can. The hops are hoppy and the malts are malty. The can feels canny and the head is ... Heady. I digress. This is a rather grainy red ale, not particularly sweet. Very subtle caramel flavor is obscured by big bread and raw milled grain notes ... Clean yeast like a lager. A little sour stonefruit shows up late to the party. More hops on the nose than on the palate: What's there is herbal and grassy. Biscuit malt, slight treacle, and some nondescript citrus, again showing up late. OK, this develops in a decent direction, truth be told. Goes in a somewhat English direction. Its too bad the aforementioned graininess doesn't recede more into the background.

355ml can. Not too much info abounding on this offering, other than that it contains 'hoppy hops' and 'malty malt', and is 'strong', at 5.9% ABV. I'm guessing that it's a 'beery beer', too.
This beer pours a clear, medium bronzed amber hue, with two fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and mildly bubbly ecru head, which leaves some bleeding layered paint swath lace around the glass as it gently subsides.
It smells of gritty, grainy pale and caramel malt, earthy, leafy, and almost minty hops, a touch of random dark fruitiness, and a certain metallic booziness. The taste is biscuity, lightly doughy caramel malt, somewhat tart stonefruit, leafy, floral, and kind of spicy hops, and a much lessened alcohol measure.
The carbonation is fairly active all around, manifesting in a tight frothiness on the palate, the body just shy of middleweight, and actually quite smooth, a small airy creaminess appearing as the ambient temperature rises. It finishes trending dry, the malt going crackery, the hops holding steady, and the alcohol more or less bowing out.
Pretty much a decent amber ale, amped up a point or so in the ABV metric, which I suppose justifies the prominent display of the 'strong' moniker. Anyhoo, nothing special here, maybe something you could have a few of after work's done for the day (as promoted on the label blurb), but soon you'll be wanting something different and/or actually stronger.
