This multi-award winning beer has gained the reputation as one of the best of its kind. It doesn't know whether it wants to be a milk, oatmeal, or English stout, and it doesn't have to. We're not as concerned with the classification as much as we are excited about the flavor. Crafted with our special blend of base malts plus 5 specialty malts then aged on Madagascar vanilla beans. 7 Layer Stout is a full bodied "session" beer with loads of flavor.

Brewed with water, malt, hops, yeast, vanilla beans, and lactose.

On tap at The Craft Bar in Destin, FL.

Aroma is roasty and cocoa.

Taste of nice cocoa (just enough sweetness) with a bitter end.

Nice smooth mouthfeel.

Rather enjoyable!

Bowigens Beer Co. "7 Layer Stout"
$6 / 10 oz. on tap @ The Sunny Pint, Wildwood, FL

It's a very dark brown that appears black in the full glass beneath a short head of tan. The aroma suggests roasty coffee beans and chocolate. The flavor follows with an additional edge of vanilla, a touch of golden caramel, and some mild leafy hops. It’s moderately bitter and finishes mainly dry, earthy, and mildly roasty. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp and smooth. I don't really get the complexity that the name "7 Layer Stout" suggests but in looking back at what I've written there are indeed 7 different components to it, and I think the taste is great. It could have better head retention and lacing but I'm OK with that. Nicely done.

Poured a brown body with decent head and an aroma of roasted malts with minimal chocolate. Dry beer with filling medium body that has a roasted edge but there is a touch of lactic sweetness and vanilla as well. There are notes of roasted chocolate sweetness in a semi-dry finish and beer is pretty easy to drink.

Very good head production, but the lively brown foam stands tall for a moment before quickly collapsing on itself, leaving behind no trace that it ever existed. The top of the body is smooth and still.

At first, the nose was a touch sharp and metallic, very cola-like, but after sitting in the glass for a while, smooth rich notes of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla emerge. Additional notes include toffee, honeycomb, red grape, toast, and prune.

Somewhat thin and slick on the palate up front, unsurprising given the ABV. The creaminess of the lactose comes through and lifts up the body somewhat.

Surprisingly roasty, with a nutty, coffee-like char. Chocolate notes come through as well; you'd almost think it was aged on cacao instead of vanilla. Sweet at first, but drying through the middle. Finish is a touch dry. The vanilla doesn't add much to the proceedings until the finish, where it lingers along with notes of lightly charred toast.

12oz can into snifter

L- Average milk stout pour, dark with a tan head that doesn't hold long.
S- Out of this world, never had one that smelled so much on point, solid chocolate milk smell, best smell yet
T- After such a great smell, that taste was a let down, was expecting more sweet/chocolate, left with more roast and light sweetness
F- Good, not as thick as other milk stouts but overall pleasing
O- Great smell, simply amazing aroma but the taste was a let down. Good to try but still needs a little work

Drinkin' local and likin' it...

A very good entry in the milk stout cagtegory - beautifully dark, lightly sweet to the nose, creamy to the mouth, and a full-bodied taste from top to bottom. Definitely enjoyed this, and a big plus to buy from a local brewer during this whole COVID drama...

12 oz can served in a lager glass.
Pours with an opaque blackish body with a decent tan head.
Good, malty aroma that is rather typical for style but carried above average by the depth of the roasted grain notes and some complexity. The flavor is a bit more complex and better balanced than average, with loads of chocolate, some light coffee, and a nice, quick transition from sweetness up front to the mildly bitter finish and aftertaste. The vanilla beans are apparent but not the bourbon.
