Copenhagen 26/3 2021. 44 cl an from Best of Beers web-shop. Vocation and Kirkstall's logo in gold on a can covered with very dark roasted coffee beans.
Pours opaque, dark brown with a small light beige head. Settles as patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense with a strong, sweet slightly candy-like odor mingling with earthy scents and a distant streak of coffee. Dark roasted malts. Brown sugar and caramel. Compost and leather. Bitter espresso toffee.
Light carbonation. Medium thick, viscous, soft, smooth, lightly tingling texture. Slightly sticky. A bit like a milkshake.
Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong coffee bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a boozy streak. Finish is quite dry.
Powerful and intense Imperial Stout with an adequate balance between the bitter coffee and the pastry-like sweetness.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt and distinct coffee and chocolate, as well as hints of dark fruit and licorice. Taste is an excellent balance of roasted, caramel malt, distinct coffee and dark chocolate, some dark fruit, with notes of raisin and plum, as well as lighter licorice, tobacco and hints of cinnamon and peppery spice also coming through. Finishes with a light sweetness and bitterness, as well as some coffee, chocolate, licorice and spice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and low/medium carbonation.
This makes for a very nice Coffee Stout with rich coffee and chocolate notes that complement each other well, while some dark fruit, licorice and spice, likely a mix from the malts and coffee add some additional depth here. While it's just a tad too sweet for my personal taste, mainly from the caramel malts, the roasted malts, licorice and spice provide a very nice balance here and I really like the way the sweet, roasted, spicy and bitter notes come together here, with a certain dryness in the finish. Excellent body and mouthfeel as well.
