This is based on their old in house brewed recipe that came in the 750ml bottles.
It is a crime what they did to this beer when they contracted it out.
Not even close to the original!
It was my favourite beer of all time.
This was back in '92.
I'm gunna have to brew it myself I guess. I just wish I could get a hold of Bill Morre. He is a brew god!

light orange fading to a mild gold color in an imperial pint glass. crazy lacing, that's the honey talking. patchy foamy head. nose is malt with super delicious notes of honey coated graham crackers- the resemblance is uncanny. also somewhat flowery. flavor is hit with a nice hop level to contrast the potentially-overwhelming sweetness. malty and lots of clover. honey adds more flavor here than sugar in the end. big flavor with a light body. drinkable in balls-hot weather and i wish i could have another.

Original notes: Clear yellow. Rich and creamy, malty w honey hints. Strong. Star.
Hazy yellow gold with a large bubbled low white head. Pours thick! Malty honey-infused aroma and flavor. Full bodied with a lightly sweet malt and honey finish.
I think this beer has been replaced with the "Blonde Double Mai Bock" and they may be the same...
Per label: "Beer brewed with honey" & "Golden Double Bock with more malts, less water, and a touch of honey"

On tap at the Grey Lodge Pub, pours a true to form clear golden hued pint with an ivory cap.
Slight scents of grassy leafy mineraly grain.
First swigs: Honey and grain flavors predominate. Smooth feel. Easily drinkable. A delicate twinge of orange to the finish. Clean.

Nice frothy head sitting atop a golden honey-colored beer. I detected aromas of fruit, particularly apricots, and spice. My first swig revealed flavors of spice, fruit, and hoppy bitterness, which I later likened to the bitterness of orange pith. A well-rounded mouthfeel, in my opinion, really perfect for the hot day it was. Satisfying, that's all I can say.

The body is a medium amber with a bright white fading head that laces nicely. The body is mildly malty, with hops lingering in the back. This may be on the verge of going skunky, but it's not bad yet. Honey and caramel on toast and a slight bitterness in the finish.

Long lasting deep ivory head, clear bright brassy/amber liquid. Nose is sweet and lightly toasty malt, and indeed I do detect some honey notes as well. The taste is full-bodied, deep bready maltiness then substantial tasty hops..and plenty of them. They cut thru the malt perfectly, combining in a perfect bittersweet flavorful lager. Finishes on a long hop fade out. Very good and very recommended!

It pours a cloudy iced tea orange-yellow. Two fingers of white head grow, then ebb to a sheet of fine foam across the surface of the beer. There's minimal teardrop lacing dotting the inside of the glass.
The aroma brings a thick cloud of malt, buzzing with a tart-edged honey sweetness. A light toffee note is offset by a muted metallic bitterness of indistinct hops.
Upon sipping, there's a dense tid of malt, swirling and tilting amid the distinct caramel-like sweetness of cooked honey. A rounded baked dough presence swells gently in the middle. The hops play through toward the end with a very mild fragrance, then linger at the finish with a subdued bitter glow. the flavor has an interesting profile, but it would benefit being minus the honey's assertion.
Medium bodied, the muscular malt character makes it feel chewy on the palate. The various elements combine to leave a warm tingle at the finish.
The malt stands tall, flexing and posing, but the honey plays the role of a pesky foil. That's a shame, really, because with just the malt and hops you'd have a very present, if not overly impressive, balance. While the sweetness doesn't necessarily cloy, it does detract fromt he stronger, more desireable elements. I'll finish the sixer, but it may take a while, because it's drinkable only in small doses. Still, I'm going to try this sans the bee juice, because this one shows me there's some potential here.

I thought this was the same as their Blonde Double Maibock, but apparently not....This isn't as good as the one of those I had last year...
This is supposed to be a lager but is very cloudy and hazy...nose has some sweet honey to it...body is medium and sticky....flavors are more like a honey ale of some sort...decent honey flavor...also a hit of spicy alcohol and hops at the finish....not bad at all...feels flat in the mouth....feels more like a regular maibock in strength too..
Worth drinking and trying...not worth seeking....I poured this next to Capital Blonde Doppel and this paled in comparison...the Capital was a rich, regal, clear, crisp auburn color...this was cloudy and hazy peach color...the capital had a full rich body...a full load of malt and and was heads and shoulders above this one....Kind of like putting an NFL team up against a high school team...and I'm not lknocking this brewery because I typically enjoy their stuff...this is just run of the mill though....

Deep hazed golden appearance. Decent sized bone white head recedes to a thin film that sticks around for a while. The aroma is more herbal than sweet surprisingly. Some musty scents as well. Good mouthfeel. Damn near full body. Feels good in the mouth. The flavor is alright, but not as malty or sweet as I like my maibocks. This one has a dry, earthy presence to compliment the caramel and munich malts. A little biscuity malt presence as well. Better than average for sure, but not among my personal heavy hitters when it comes to maibocks.

Poured a cloudy golden color with a small film of foam. The aroma is very fruity and sweet. Like ripe raisins, or better yet, cinnamon raisin bread. The flavor is semi sweet with some honey and some chocolate coming through. Honey and fruit are evident in the flavor. This is a medium bodied beer, which finishes with a fruity tang that coats the throat. Not bad, loaded with flavor.

The beer poured to a nice bronze color with a creamy thick head. There was a sweet aroma to this beer. Very smooth on the tongue and malt lasted well into the aftertaste. There was some slight bitterness, but it was balanced against the sweetness. The head slowly receded during drink leaving a spotty residue on the liquid surface. Very drinkable, and for years this has been a favorite of mine. This was from a bottle, and the on tap version is superior.

Poured from the 12 oz bottle, brewed in Maryland, not PA, a medium orange color with a large white head, big bubbles. On the nose was Munich malts, caramel, honey and no noticeable hop aroma.
Taste - Very full and sweet, quite malty, Munich malts, caramel, quite rich and chewy. Mid pallet; a very light hop bitterness breezes through. Closes out with and almost cloying honey sweetness. Finishes very honey-sweet and smooth as silk. Carbonation was nice and low, mouthfeel was very slick and clingy.
Overall - A well crafted bock Stoudt's knows lagers. Full flavored and interesting for sure. Be warned - a lager on the sweet side and the addition of the honey was a big one. This beer has a strong honey presence and is quite sweet. I never found the honey character over the top, but it came extremely close. The only real drawback with this one was the high sweetness cut into the beers drinkability. After one, I could have had another, but my pallet was really craving something different to cut some of that honey flavor.

Blonde Double Maibock (brewed with honey and 7%ABV)
Orangeish copper color with an off-white head.
Aroma of sweet malts and earthy hops. Slight mustiness.
Taste of sweet malts with a toffee like flavor, honey, and a decent level of hop bitterness. Overall slightly on the sweet side.
A touch thin in mouthfeel.
Good drinkability, but something I can't pinpoint about the beer just doesn't sit right with me and keeps it from ascending to that next level.
Overall a good beer worth trying.

A nice Maibock with malty overtones and a clean lager finish. It goes well with pretzels and or pizza, and the malt is a bit sweet at times hence the 4.0 taste. It is one of their smoother beers, malty to a point of true sweetness from the honey, but all in all a nice change especially for spring.
