What a surprise to find this one on the shelves at a local store. I had a feeling what I was going to find inside before ever opening the bottle.
The pour wasn't too bad at all. Dark amber color with a thin light tan head. Very little lacing. Pretty much what I expected with a 7 year old IPA.
The aroma was fruity, sweet malts. Hops nowhere in there. Again, not surprising.
The flavor, also, was as one would expect. No hop presence at all. Malty sweetness that had gone a bit sour almost.
Thin, watery mouthfeel...a little syrupy. One glass was plenty from this 750ml bottle. The rest went down the drain.

Obviously Y2K IPA was released in 2000 so this is a six year vintage review. I normally wouldn't review a cellared beer but since this is a brewed once (limited - release) beer. If you have one in your cellar it has been aging just as long that said; If you still have a Y2K IPA drink it now! It is past its prime. It is still a decent malty fruity beer, but the hop profile is pretty much gone. It poured a dark amber w/ hints of ruby highlights. The smell was sweet and had a bit of malts and brown sugar but very little (if any) hops. The taste was (again) malty with hints of fruitiness. The mouthfeel may be the best thing going since it was remarkably creamy and smooth. I enjoyed the beer as a beverage but I'm certain it was better a couple years ago.
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

Cuvee 3 2000
Sweet hops with a good strong dose of malt in the nose. Crystal reddish/amber color with a brown tint to the creamy head. Quite smooth mouth with a primary taste of earthy malt followed by a hoppy bitter finish. It is quite heavy on the malt side for an IPA and that hurts its drinkability per the style. It has a wonderful mouth feel and look to the brew but, the "earthy sweetness" wore on my tongue. The brew is dry hopped agressively and its got plenty in the boil... but there is still something off balence in the grain bill.
Re-reviewed Cuvee 3 2000
Fresh malt/hop/lemon nose. Amber color with lots of little bubbles. Thick tan head, quite creamy. Silky mouth with an original sweet malt base then a hop flower finish with notes of citrus and earth. Nice mouth and not as bitter as other ipa's. Quite rounded.
