look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Pours clear and golden colored, capped by a frothy head; decent stickage and lacing

Smell: Crackery and slightly toasted, with a hint of grain and grass

Taste: Crackery and slightly toasted malt flavors, up front, with grassy hops arriving to provide some balance through the middle; the finish is crisp with a hint of sulfur

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with crisp, moderately high carbonation

Overall: Not a style that craft brewers tackle often (and it takes more skill than one would think around here), this is a first class Munich Helles; would make a lager drinker out of me if I were so inclined

Yes! I know how to make helles lagers sell better. Start calling them session beers. People seem to think that makes beer taste better. Whatever.

This is a really well made lager. I've not tried anything else by Stoudts but if this is any indication, I need to acquaint myself with their product line. Great looking beer in the glass, reminds me of Weihenstephaner in the color clarity and carbonation level. Yeah that's right I just dropped the big W.

This is a beer you can drink all night easily. Six pack material. Wonderful malt base, substantial despite being a lower ABV pale gold beer. That's my favorite Decepticon feature of a good helles lager. Way more malty than you would think just by looking at it. More than meets the eye.

Grassy overtones, kind of get a hay field vibe from this. Bready somewhat but more cracker crisp than that. I love the mouthfeel, again getting a big W feel here. The finish is superb, I just want another pint on deck so I don't have to wait for my next sip when this glass is empty. There is a subtle creaminess despite how effervescent this beer is. Helles lagers are magic.

Thank you Stoudts, I love this. Please make more

My first round with this Lager was mediocre. However, after a great night at a German hall with great imported German Helles style lager, I came home a tried it again. I tasted the same great Helles style lager. I realized great care and attention went into making this Lager. Must have on hand. Always.

Pours a straw color with decent head. Grain like aroma and a bit of hay. Toasted malt taste, fruity like green apples, moderate hops. apple. Very clean finish. Smooth and light. This was an excellent lager.

look - Golden color with a good head and lacing. Typical for a good lager.
smell - normal lager smell with good hop malt balance
taste - very tasty with a great balance
feel - crisp medium body
overall - for not being a lager fan because I think they are kind of boring, this is a pretty good lager!

Got this at the beach last year at a local craft beer seller. Took a six pack on the beach. Good drinking beer. Had a light crisp hop flavor at first. The malt smell and taste is a little low for me. Light wheat color to it. Had a thin head to it. Alot better than my go to beer miller lite. So it a keeper.

This is a darned fine beer, nice color and aroma and very drinkable. I found it had a nice hoppy aftertaste which I enjoyed. I thought it was slightly flat which detracted from the "Feel" score. I'm not a huge fan of German style beers but this is one nicest I've tasted.

Undated bottle at 40 degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of light malt
Head small (2 cm), white, creamy, slowly diminishing to 2 mm uneven layer
Lacing poor –few small islands of tiny bubbles – as the beer warms up small partial rings begin
Body very light yellow, clear
Flavor begins slight hop bitterness which fades into light malt; no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate light, watery, lively carbonation

Appearance 3.5, Aroma 3, Flavor 3.25, Palate 3.5, Overall 3.3125. Final weighted score: 3.225
A very inoffensive lager. Pleasing appearance overall, although the lacing could have been better.

Honey yellow in color with excellent clarity. Poured with a short, bright white foam that quickly reduced to a thin wispy cap. Fresh grain, biscuit malt, fresh grass, and light herbal aromas. Medium bodied with a delicate lager feel up front followed by sharp, tongue twisting tanginess through middle and a clean, crisp, dry finish. Bready, biscuity malt flavors throughout with herbal hop tanginess through the middle. Finishes with a biscuity malt aftertaste. An awesome, refreshing, easy-drinking, malty, German lager.

Crystal clear light gold color. Small head that settles to rim bubbles. Good rim lace on the initial sip, becomes spotty thereafter.

Smooth, pleasant pale semi-malted grain smell. No hop, not that I was expecting any.

Round and grainy. A very good example of the style. On the thin side as it should be but it has ample carbonation making this very spritzy. Grainy finish with a whiff of hop pepper. Short grassy aftertaste.

I revisited this beer just recently, I did it some injustice the first time around. My review is updated to reflect the changes.

Poured from a bottle into a standard pint glass.

A: A lighter golden color that is clear as a bell. One finger white head that leaves not much lace.

S: Biscuit, fruity, floral, grass and grains.

T: Grassy, grainy, biscuity with some fruit flavors of lemon, peach and apple. A little bit of pepper and spice with a grassy and floral hop bite at the finish. Very, very dry finish that almost turns tart. Very nice.

M: Medium, not real coating and not overly lingering or lasting but very dry.

D: Pretty high, an easy drinker.

Overall a fantastic Helles that is easy to drink and a true representation of the style. There is a lot to be said for low alcohol but high taste solid drinkable beers, and this one falls squarely in that category. A fantastic Helles that should be rated as one of the best it the category.

Poured from a chilled 12 oz. bottle.

App: Gold with a slight orange tint. Some aeration, 1 finger head which disappeared really quickly. No lacing.

Aroma: Barley and wheat with a slight hint of hops.

Taste: Wheat, barley with just a slight tinge of hops.

Mouthfeel: No significant change, no surprises.

Overall: A solid lager from PA. It would be a good introductory beer for someone who has not experienced hops in their beer.

Appearance - light straw color with white head

Smell - honey, wheat, baked bread

Taste - impressive, honey is upfront with wheat and fresh baked bread.

Mouthfeel - lighter end of medium bodied, ample carbonation, slightly sweet, crisp and clean finish

Overall - this is a very impressive beer, crisp and refreshing yet flavorful. I could knock back a few of these on a nice summers day. Wish I had gotten more of these.

Price point - $2.19/12 oz. single

Wow this was really good probably better than my score. Had this one years ago, growler, and it's still outstanding. Much lighter than what I usually drink now, but just right this 4th of July am.

Yellow gold pale big aroma fresh lemony hops and bready malts. Crisp, refreshing, light mix of perfectly balanced malts and hops. This dissapeared in minutes. Great aftertaste. One helluva lager.

Wow! This IS the best session beer. If there is one beer I could drink for the rest of my life STOUDTS GOLD would be it. Simply a great refreshing beer with an unparallel taste. Picked it up in Pittsburgh and can't wait to grab some more next time I'm back.

The color is a gold color, flowing carbonation all up the glass. Looks very much like a lager of the style.

The aroma has some grassiness, but a really wonderful bready malt.

The flavor follows slight sweet malt and grassy bitterness.

This really has good characteristics. The grassiness is towards a pilsner but not quite. Easily one of my favorite sessionable lagers.

A superb Helles! Decanted into pint crisp and refreshing...the ultimate session lager...why would you ever mess with some macro-adjuct-crap when, for a few bucks more (and well-worth-it) you can have this!

A - Pale straw gold...1 inch head...awesome lacing...a thin coating of head sticks around...

S - Earthy-herbal hops...biscuits and yeast...excellent!

T - Perfectly balanced...just enough bitterness to keep the malts in check...a little citrusy-lemon peelish tang...creamy bready yeastiness...

M - Smooth and silky...but also crisp and clean...

Ovearll - Reach for this the next time you want a good, easy drinking brew when your watching a game, sitting outside, grilling, or just want a great pennsylvania lager! Enjoy! Cheers!

A - clear, see-through, golden yellow with a thin, bubbly white head that fades to a thin lacing

S - light grains and a nice, pleasant grassy aroma

T - cereal grains, some faint breadiness, a very faint lemony presence, grassy, clean bitter finish

M - clean, crisp, well carbonated, light to medium bodied

This is a nicely built, well crafted, easy-to-drink helles lager. I'm impressed with the depth this beer has considering it's one of the more simplistic styles. This is a very, nice refreshing lager that I wouldn't mind having again.

Crisp and peppery-spicy. Honey and cracker malt flavors, but lacking a bit in some malt body and yeast color for a Munich helles. Some Champagne-like fruitiness and somewhat surprisingly-bold hop bitterness, and flavor to a slightly lesser extent. A lil bit more malt richness and body and I could see drinking this more often. 'Twas a fine palate cleanser and flavor compliment for the fish chowder and salty pretzel I had with it.

12oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

A: Light straw colored gold. Great clarity. creamy white head retains well. Small delicate rings and small spots of lacing.

S: Grain, slight dough. Faint grape skin and a vague fruitiness. Earthy and grassy hops.

T: Grainy with a hint of husk. Well balanced. Hops are very earthy and grassy. Light fruitiness and grape skin character comes through. Hops go spicy eventually. Finish of dough and cracker and a fading grassy hop character.

M: Light bodied. Filling in the mouth. Creamy. Crisp bite of carbonation.

O: When a Helles is done right, it's a beautiful thing to experience. This one is done right. Great balance, flavor is simple but vibrant and bright. Flawlessly brewed. This is the best American made Helles I've ever had, and it tastes pretty damn authentic. Between this beer and their pilsner, Stoudts brews some truly top-notch lagers.

Poured a chill hazy yellowish golden with a foamy white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing with a minimal amount of sticking. Aromas of honey grains and floral, spicy hops. Good carbonation and a crisp, dryish, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Delicious tasting, honey spread over a grainy cracker, a cleansing spiciness from the hops, a subtle fruity flavor comes out in middle, and a grainy, spicy herbal finish. This is a really tasty and balanced Munich lager.

12 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly clear golden straw color with a nice 1-2 finger dense fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pear, grape, apple, pepper, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and earthy spiciness. Damn nice aromas with good strength, balance, and complexity. Taste of cracker, bready grain, apple, pear, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, light clove, and earthy spiciness. Lightly tart earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of bread, light fruits, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Nice amount of flavors with good balance; zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with almost zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very excellent Helles lager! Nice amount of flavors with good balance; extremely smooth and crisp to drink. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

Bright yellow with generous stark white head. This is decently but not overly carbonated.

Classic grainy lager and malt smell, similar to what one would find with adjunct lagers or sapporo reserve but noticeably missing the sickly elements. It smells very nice.

Taste wise this is a what one would expect from a stereotypical lager except for done exceptionally well. Mostly malt flavor but hop bitterness is present with a noble hop spice undertone.

I feel strange comparing this great lager with lesser lagers but its the best way to describe this in my opinion.

I would buy a six pack of this anytime.
