Sweet malty aroma with notes of chocolate and i think I smell crystal malts too, but I have no idea if any of the 7 damn beers in here use a lot of crystal malts. Deep brown with a firm finger thick head. Much more malty than I expected. Little roasted elements...actually NO roasted elements, but a lot of malty and mildly toasty brown ale notes. Fruity in the middle with a low key touch of hops in the finish. Tastes MUCH MORE like a brown ale than most porters brewed in the US today, but I guess technically this would be closer to a traditional English porter.

Bottle shared by Drew. Thanks!

A: The pour is a dark brown color with some reddish notes and a nice tan head.

S: Roasted malts and some mild coffee notes up front with a touch of dark, bitter chocolate. There's a ton of dark fruit aromas that are really quite nice. There's a mild toffee sweetness underlying it all.

T: The flavor is a let down after the nose. Toffee and molasses provide the sweetness, along with just a hint of caramel. There's a decent amount of coffee and roast and just a hint of smokiness.

M: The mouthfeel is where this beer really falters. Pretty thin and it detracts from the flavor as well. Medium carbonation is present.

O: Surprisingly good considering the age of it. Don't see it getting any better, but it's still good.

7 Threads Symposium

10 oz served up at Exton- Drafting Room

A- Murky cola brown with a small foamy head.
S- Sweet tangy grapes. Spices. Reminded me a little of a Wheat Wine.
T- Sweet merlot like grape flavor. Sour wiskey mix, tart cherry, and molasses/ caramel malt. All blended and slightly messy.
M- Very sweet and tart almost puckering. Boozy finish.

Overall- This is a porter?! Time soured this 1.
Regardless, I liked it.

I had this on draft in a 10oz pour at the final Victory for Heavyweight event at the Drafting Room in Exton, Pa. Served in a chalice.

A - Deep brown w/ reddish hues and a tan
head that leaves no lacing behind.

S - Sweet malty creamy odors of a brown ale w/ Chutzpah. A subtle vinous quality is noted w/ a hint of hoppiness.

M - Smooth clean malts swirl into a tart crisp, sugary feel that is full and carries on w/ a residual sweetness until the finish.

T - Malty, sweet w/ spice and dry earthy flavors. There is a hint of belgian yeast note and a winey quality that Phatz commented may have been a result of the Fat dog thread of the blend. Slight sour wort and roasted notes w/ slight herbal and creamy flavors the sweetness is honey like at times and roasty chocolatey notes linger on until the porter-like finish.

D - A fine ale, a unique one w/ lots of complexity. Very interesting and I am glad I had the chance to sample this fine brew. The experiment was well worth the taste.

On tap at the Final Vicotry for Heavyweight event at The Drafting Room in Exton. I felt very lucky and honored to get the chance to try this special brew.

Served in a 10 oz. snifter

A-Deep dark brown with ruby hiighlights. Thin tan edgings around the rim rim of the glass.

S-A bit of roasty malt and a wafting of alcohol but not much else.

T-Rich roastiness and full bodied. fairly complez. Some licorice notes with hints of toffee.

M-Thinner than the taste belies. Good, but leaves you wanting more. Certainly easy going.

D-An interesting blend. A good effort considering how it could have turned out.

Seeing the list of beers that went into this mix and the low price at The Drafting Room, I couldn't pass it up.

Pours a dark brown with nice head and some lacing. Smells are very malty, with some fruit and chocolate. Taste is very malty, with some nuts, chocolate, and fruits added, tastes more of a nut brown than a porter. Medium in body and smooth. Worth a try, but I would rather enjoy each of the beers that make this up.

I admit, after seeing the list of beers that went into this, I had to try it. Had it on tap at The Drafting Room in Exton, PA.

It was dark like a porter but didn't taste like one. You can taste each of the individual beers that make this one up, but it really didn't have a distinct style that it falls into. Had a fruity, chocolate, malty smell and taste. Every sip yielded a different flavor, which was kinda cool. All in all, its worth a try for the discounted price of $2.95 a pint, but I would rather have the beers that make it up for full price.

Pours a standard brown hue with a spotty lace collar. Scents are an awkward brown, mostly with some nutty aroma.

Tastes like a basic nutty brown ale with some (Storm King?) stout peeking through. Quite interesting, albeit misses the mark. I mean, Yards IPA is in here??? Really??? Wow! Mad mad props for local brewers getting together. I even sampled a Storm King and a DFH Chicory along with this. A creative mess. Sorta like a beer jungle juice. A dressed up brown ale and no where to go.

Glad to have tried it. Wicked big thank you to the kind soul who hooked me up.

I'm not even sure why this beer is here, but OK, I'll bite and let it live. I should probably delete it from the system, but I'm interested to see if anyone will review it.

This isn't actually brewed by Stoudt's, but it was blended and bottled there from kegs of beer sent by 7 other local breweries for the 2005 Craft Brew Conference in Philadelphia in April. Here's the list of what's in it:
Dogfish Head Indian Brown
Flying Fish Porter
Independence Brewpub Oatmeal Stout
Iron Hill Pig Iron Porter
Nodding Head Grog
Stoudt's Fat Dog Stout
Victory Storm King
and
Yards India Pale Ale

It wasn't really a hit at the conference, but it is a decent beer. It's dark and semi-rich, with a medium body and standard carbonation. Knowing the beers that went into it I can say that some of them do stand out a little, but in general, the whole of this is lesser than that of the parts that make it up. It's become muddled... kind of like an average brewpub robust porter with a strong edge to it. I'd much rather have any of the beers that went into this on their own.
