Stoudt's Robust Porter, served on-tap at McCleary's in Marietta, PA.
A: The porter is a brilliant brown-black color, dark Werther's hard candies are a decent comparison. A tan-colored head, not too big, stuck around for a spell.
S: The nose is fragrant, full of chocolate and dark malts and just a hint of hops to counteract the sweet elements.
T: The porter is quite good, flavorful without too much heft behind it. Chocolate notes, including sweeter cocoa powder and syrup, drive the flavor. For the darkness of the ale, the bitter burnt flavors aren't hanging around. The malts are pretty reserved as a result, making it very drinkable.
M: The mouthfeel is loaded, a full drink that doesn't leave you full. The mild hops mix nicely with the darker flavors.
D: If we'd have been hanging out longer at McCleary's, I'd have had another glass.
