Never fear. The spice is here. This dry, "chili" saison's bark is worse than its bite with a strong jalapeño nose balanced by a tortilla chip breadiness and a dry finish. The slight heat provides the rich experience of a jalapeño, hopefully without sending you running for a glass of milk. Please note that the variation in jalapeño spice levels causes this beer to fluctuate somewhat in heat as the seasons change.

On Rotation typically has three of it's in-house brewed beers on tap, in addition to 37 others. Grayson suggested I try out the Jalapeno Saison which I drank out of a tulip glass yesterday at the brewhouse.
L: Beautiful golden color with nice clarity. A one finger off-white head that slowly subsided. Bright color was very appetizing.
S: Pepper beers are so often overwrought and it's generally immediately noticeable on the nose. On Rotation nails it with this--in a good way. The jalapeno is fresh, bright and absolutely present, but not overwhelming. Estery note of Belgian farmhouse yeast is very present along with a light sweetness.
T: Much like the nose, the jalapeno is very well-balanced in the body. The zesty, pepper heat is very subtle upfront and then takes a back seat to the solid malt backbone, great yeast profile replete with flavors of stone fruits, and a light hop profile. Quite dry, very refreshing. Flavor opens up a bit as it warms.
F: Wonderful mouthfeel, which is a pleasure to report given the use of peppers. Alcohol is hidden well.
O: This beer is one of the best examples of pepper use in a beer that I've ever had. Really. Excellent balance and virtually perfect use of jalapenos. It would be a very good example of a Belgian saison on it's own, excluding the jalapenos. Adding the peppers, astonishingly, makes this even better. Absolutely worth a try.
