i love an english ipa, and this was probably my favorite beer in the collaboration four pack, such a rad idea to get the locals together for this project, this one is done with oval. its deep amber colored from the can with a little orange on the edges and some haze, a full off white head, and lots of carbonation. the nose is nutty and malt driven without seeming to have much sugar to it, love that, chestnut and almond notes, light toffee, golden raisin, and rustic bread. the hops are as bitter as they are flavorful, which is to say this is really well balanced, and strikingly fresh without the oxidation that often plagues the imports. its earthen and toasted to me, hearty but not heavy, and the hops have a little bit of pine and spiciness that work perfectly here. i also really like the ferment, its on the dry side for the style and the yeast adds to the bready depth this has, i think they nailed that part of it. medium body and very smooth, right carbonation level for the style, and relatively fast finishing for what it is. overall a pretty impressive effort, and a style we just dont see enough of from american brewers. id buy a four pack of just this one if they sold it that way...
