my first from these guys, courtesy of friends from the area traveling through, crowler freshly canned off. good day for a cream ale when we crack it too, hot and summery and sunny, perfect for an evening stroll through the garden and a long awaited catch up. golden and really light, super frothy headed from the can, looks delicate but really churned up, holds its head well for a beer this light in body, shows frantic carbonation, and is just off from perfectly clear, lighter than straw colored. the nose is minimal, but its not as clean and crisp as a lager, a little husky cereal thing, light still, not nothing, and some doughy yeast character, very light on the hops but it comes across as extremely fresh and also very well balanced. the flavor is a little more robust than the nose, dry pale malt, minerals, faint herbal hop character, possibly noble, and then the not quite neutral ferment, which dries this out really well and adds light almost european vibes to this. sometimes i like this style more for what it isnt than for what it is, but this one is flavorful for being so light and totally intentional to me the whole way, on the edge of expertly crafted, wonderfully refreshing and well carbonated, and it warms up much better than most of the rest of the field. easy and summery, hard to get too fired up about a simple cream ale, but as beer flavored beer goes, this one was a winner. this was gone way too fast, i could have had the whole crowler and another one by myself. looking forward to trying the ipa they brought me that is still in the fridge! good first impression from mountain rambler.
