Brewed at the brew-pub on June 8, 2007. Consumed on draught, August 14, 2007, so this is a pretty young W-B.
An imperial pint came to my table with a decent thick off-white head that lasted well and left ample lacing. Body is a hazy dark amber, but not as dark or opaque as I anticipated.
Smell is rich and intense, cherry syrup, lots of banana and citrus: like a tropical fruit salad, all poured over a warm bread pudding. Lots of rich roasted bready malts. Good, complex aroma.
Taste follows suit with the aroma, except there is a lot (LOT!) of clovey-peppery spiceyness to this. Nice sweet chocolate malt. Like a milk-chocolate-covered cherry cordial with lots of pepper and clove, with a rich warm boozy finish. Mmmmm. Best tasting BBC beer I've had.
Mouthfeel is slurpaliciously thick and buttery smooth. What a contrast with the sweet-bready-spicey taste. Light carbonation.
Drinkability is somewhat reduced by the ABV, even though it's well hidden. Still, this is complex enough to enjoy a lot of without boring your palate.
On a side note, had this with BBC's signature bread pudding, which is ridiculously rich, like sin in a bowl. If I were a Catholic, I would have to go to confession just for eating this stuff -- wowow! The Weizenbock was a wonderful accompaniment to it, and stood up well to the intense rich flavors.
Definitely the best BBC beer yet brewed. Go to the brewpub and give it a try.
