A: Pours a gorgeous dark amber with a thin, fizzy tan mousse that quickly recedes, leaving only a very modest amount of lacing.
S: Aromas of smoked cherry, caramel, toffee, toasted marshmallow, roasted nuts, nougat, and leather are underscored by hints of cocoa and brown butter.
T: Malty notes of almond nougat, cocoa, vanilla bean, roasted chestnut, caramel, toffee, leather, toasted marshmallow, and heavy cream are supported by earthy, herbal, tobacco-tinged hop notes. The finish is mellow and warming with a big smoked cherry, almond, caramel, and cream finish.
M: Full-bodied, but lighter and noticeably less syrupy than many ales of this style. Very dry for the style. Carbonation is fairly intense. Alcohol presence is gentle and mellowing. Easier to drink than the average wee heavy, even though the carbonation could be reined in just a bit.
O: An interesting ale. To be honest, the first time I tried this I thought it was very mediocre, but after really giving it a chance, I kind of like it. It's not the most complex wee heavy I've ever had, but it is quite tasty in its own way.
