this was my least favorite of the three beers i had here. not to say its bad, it isnt at all, but the others were much better, and this one has some pretty visible flaws to it. it looks great in the glass, thick and really dark, but with an obsidian luster and a nice inch of dark brown head on it. the nose is really sweet, but i also smell some earthy coffee to balance it out. major sweetness is a real detractor from drinkability. it tastes nice, and i know its intended to be sweet, being a milk stout and all, but its a little over done with the lactose. i get some honey and vanilla sweetness too though, which really work with all the dark roasty barley in the base of this. i want it to have more carbonation too, with all the sweet density, its tough to have it be so close to still. it could really benefit from a more active bubble level. it gets filling in the belly all told, but i like the flavors a lot, and think with a few tweaks this could be a really solid brew. good beer if you only want to have one in here.
