On-draught @ Red Horn.
$5.50 per 11 fl oz pour. "Contains lactose." "Coffee maple stout."
Maple syrup up front blends well with the dark malt sweetness but to my surprise this isn't too sweet...lactose sugar doesn't come through too much and there's some roasty bitterness seemingly from both carafa and coffee.
Coffee character isn't all that distinguished or pungent aside from vague roast and java.
It's a solid maple stout with good balance though it isn't horribly complex. I'd sooner buy Founders' Breakfast Stout, but it's exciting to find a beer in central Texas that can at least hold a candle to it. Promising work from Red Horn.
