Near black with a finger of creamy-looking mocha head. Solid retention and lacing.
Roasty malt aroma with hints of hydrox cookies, peanut and a very distant red wine-like sour tang.
The taste seems sweet at first, with some clear vanilla and marshmallow, but has enough roasted malt character and Cascade-like pine bitterness to over come that. There’s a flash of nutty, borderline chicory character in the finish. (Maybe a whisper of that sourness again far behind.)
Full, creamy feel with just enough carbonation.
This one’s an odd duck. You expect a sickly sweet marshmallow dessert beer, but it’s only one part that and two parts bitter and roast stout that has a real Black IPA vibe. Worth a try.
