Review from 01 Sep 2013:
Fills a Dogfish Head snifter almost clear on initial pour, glowing orange (SRM 8-10). Cascading gold builds a one-half inch, creamy white head that dissipates slowly, leaving thick lacing. Crystal clear after the chill haze reveals occasional columns of carbonation.
Aroma is strong orange peel with grapefruit. General hop aromas and dried grass in the background.
Quite bitter upon entry, just short of enamel peeling and lingers through to the finish. Middle has pine resin and grapefruit with a hint of sweetness and earthiness. The finish is very dry. This IIPA stands up to some warming but is best at proper temperature.
A full body with soft texture and light, prickly carbonation. Alcohol is as expected, but residual sugar was a surprise.
YuleSmith Summer is not quite the refreshing beverage one expects for the season, but is still quite enjoyable while sitting in the shade on a hot, late-summer afternoon.
Too bad the neighbor’s air conditioner is so loud and always running. Still, I enjoyed the entire bottle while reading.
