Nut Brown is the unsung hero of Alesmith. Its been there since the beginning (used to be called "Nautical Nut Brown") and ha always been solid but Speedway, .394 and IPAs seem to get all the glory. Ive had a couple variations of BA Nut Brown in the past but this one might be my favorite. Malahat is right up the street from Alesmith and although they dont have a huge presence in the whiskey/spirits world, they've always had a good relationship with Alesmith.
This beer is interesting because, to me, it comes off as little more dry than most BA beers but given that Nut Brown has a light caramel, nutty flavor, it works and it works well. You definitely get the rich barrel backend but the 5% ABV and natural smoothness of the Nut Brown make this a drinker rather than a sipper.
Smooth, rich but light, warm, nutty with caramel tones and a pleasantly dry finish. Awesome beer.
