This to me is an amazing beer. The flavors in this one are so complimentary yet strong enough to push their way forward at one time or another. The coffee and apple brandy are balanced and forward in both the taste and aroma. The figs and cacao fill in the flavor and the almonds come in at the end to lend a nutty flavor that mellows out the roastiness and bitter coffee.

750 mL bottle poured into teku glass

Near black with a half inch light brown head

Nose: A LOT going on. Coffee leads followed by apple/fig, spices, some vanilla. Nice but seems a bit confused... I get an apple pie vibe for a bit but then it gets thrown off by the coffee.

Taste: Similar to the nose - still a lot going on. Apple brandy and spices are more in the forefront here and then the coffee comes in. Good flavors overall but, as in the nose, it’s a bit all over the place and seems to lack direction. I think the other adjuncts and the apple brandy barrels would work better without coffee personally.

Nice blend of figs, coffee, almonds and cacao nibs aged in apple brandy barrels. The resulting beer has a nice subtle spice on account of the figs, rounded out by the almond nuttiness and the bitter brought by the coffee. The apple brandy barrel adds just a hint of sweetness and richness, albeit not quite as thick and rich as a bourbon barrel, but it was a smart choice given this beer's ingredients. Top notch stuff.
