Appearance: Pours pitch black with a 1/2 inch head that fades to a collar; leggy with speckles of lace
Smell: Maraschino cherries dominate pairing with the charred malt and chocolate base
Taste: As in the aroma, the Maraschino cherry flavor emerges with the malt and the chocolate; there is a hint of vanilla in the finish but not much barrel impact
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet
Overall: Not all that excited about this variant, I'm afraid

2023 vintage
Really more of a cherry stout than "black forest cake". The cherries are the dominant aspect of both the aromas and the flavors. Not necessarily a bad thing, but unfortunately the cherry character is really of that cheap-o bright red maraschino cherries you get in a jar at the grocery store. Luckily the excellence of the base beer keeps things together

I’m unsure what caused me to purchase a cherry-riddled stout since I hate fruits in stouts but hey, here we are, me & the 16 oz. can. Split with my wife so she can suffer too.
Black. Not much wafting outta the glass, oddly enough.
Speedway Stout – Black Forest Cake doesn’t suck! That’s the headline. The cherry slinks into the background, strong-armed by booze, sweet malt, & an unfortunately light hint of bourbon. No rye. Weeps. Light; as all Speedways are in my mouth. Glad I split this can.
Solid. The lack of barrel is disappointing, but the modern iteration of Speedway in all its forms appears to be trending strongly in that direction. Good beer.
