On Tap

Night of a Million Zillion Speedways
O'Brien's Pub
San Diego, CA

Dark as night black with brown edges, thin head but the body of this beer is just spectacular. It's thick and oily and leaves the glass absolutely covered in sticky lace. Thick as can be and dark as night. Spectacular.

A rich chocolate aroma with very little coffee presence. The chocolate aroma seems to be of a darker, more rich, velvety variation than the other chocolate aromas in other variations of Speedway Stout.

The flavor is just as good, and certainly delicious, but somewhat simple. The chocolate flavors are rich, dark, and authentic, but they do somewhat cover up the coffee and roast elements I love in this beer.

Thick with low carbonation. Decadent chocolate delight.

A very nice variation, and certainly a must try for chocolate lovers.

On tap at O'Briens during Night of a Million Zillion speedways

Look: Black and totally opaque with a 1/8 inch tan bubbly head no real retention because of the small pour some spotty lacing

Smell: Has a very semi sweet chocolate nose and coffee notes but the coffee is a bit faint

Taste: Insanely sweet chocolate and a candy like sweetness to it with some faint coffee and licorice notes

Mouthfeel: Full body and low carbonation and a silkyness to it that just does down so smoothly

Overall: Very nice beer flavor is a bit sweet compared to the regular version but is still a very good variation of the beer

On tap at O'Brien's.

A: Black with a finger of dark brown foam. Good retention and scattered lacing.

S: Earthy coffee with rich dark chocolate notes. The chocolate is decadence itself. Smells great.

T: Coffee up front which is quickly overwhelmed by rich dark chocolate, which remains strong throughout. I didn't think this would be that much different from regular Speedway, but I was wrong. There's a light earthy bitterness and a little astringency in the finish.

M: The mouthfeel is chewy, sticky, and smooth with notable alcohol warming.

Overall: A great variation on a classic. The Mexican chocolate is great in this beer, though it doesn't taste all that much like Mexican chocolate.
