16oz can poured into a snifter

A- pours black in color with a one-finger creamy khaki head that reduces to a thin film on top

S- initial aroma smells just like stewed apples; plenty of cinnamon, caramel, caramelized sugar and baked apples. Undertones of chocolate, roast, earthy coffee, vanilla and pie crumble

T- lots of cinnamon up front, followed by an apple note that comes across as a green apple candy-like flavor. Mid-palate brings out charred malt and chocolate, as well as earthy and herbal espresso. The finish gives more cinnamon with chocolate and coffee, lingers of cinnamon and apple

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that turns silky into a warming finish

Was pretty excited to find this variant for just $5 at the vintage estate in Ohio. Looks like your standard fanfare when it comes to speedway dark black. Impressive full 2 in of head, settles back to a very nice looking mocha lace ring. Smell is kind of perplexing from a distance. I can get the distinct, apple and cinnamon but up close. It's mostly chocolate and coffee that I can pick up on the pallet. I'm glad it's very strong, very pungent beer. Well it's definitely cinnamon speedway. I don't really get much for flavor of Apple or much sweetness either a lot of coffee roast and boozy hops. Did I get a dud? It doesn't really remind me much of a pastry stout either Like it doesn't scream pie or even sweet chocolate. At least the mouth feel is smooth. The 12% packs a bit of punch but it doesn't burn or taste like ethanol. I seen another review that said it's more of a Apple Brandy and I guess that makes sense being more reminiscent of that. I really wasn't a fan and probably wouldn't pick up any of the other variants out of fear that they would be equally as booze bombs.

Part of a 4pk of stouts from Alesmith. 16oz can

Pours a deep, dark, black color. A beige, half-finger head on the initial pour that fades to a ring around the edge of the goblet. Totally opaque. A small amount of sticky lacing left on the sides of the glass.

Very nice aroma of apples and cinnamon.

A delicious stout. Very distinct flavors of an apple pie combined with coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla and sweet, roasted malts. Slightly bitter aftertaste. More of a sipper, dessert-style brew with the ABV lurking in the background.

A smooth, viscous consistency with mild carbonation.

Of the three of four versions I’ve had from this variety 4pk, this is my favorite. The apple pie taste is definitely well represented. A top notch brew…cheers!

16 ounce can, canned 10/13/2025. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like an apple pie, along with some coffee, roasted malt and a bit of cinnamon. To me the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, tastes like an apple pie with cinnamon, coffee, vanilla and roasted malt flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. Liked this one more and more the longer I drank it, out of the 3 beers I've tried from the Grand Prix MMXXV series so far this one is my favorite. Worth trying but more so if you like apple pie stouts!

Dark liquid pour with a brown sugar head that quickly dissipates to a thin ring around the edge with moderate lace on the glass. Coffee is the prominent smell and taste followed by the apples and cinnamon. High on the sweetness scale. Very easy to drink. Definitely in the desert beverage category.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, fresh apples, vanilla, cinnamon and faint chocolate; not much coffee. Flavor is dark toasted malt, artificial apple, coffee, cinnamon, vanilla and milk chocolate in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A unique take on a pastry stout that sort of works. Although there was a wonderful smell of fresh apples while pouring, a sniff of the full glass smelled more artificial. I had to read the description again to see if it was real apples or apple flavoring. It states that it's a collaboration with a pie company, so I'm led to believe it's actual apples. Perhaps the perceived artificiality is an artifact of the coffee and cinnamon flavors interacting with the apple, giving it a sharper, less fruit forward aroma. One the other hand, this was quite drinkable, and better than I expected. I hope someday to see a straight imperials stout made with just apples; I think I would be a fan. As with all these Grand Prix brews, they seem to be getting more gimmicky, but I still enjoy the whole can and look forward to the next one. One plus is they are not all that sweet for a pastry stout and Alesmith's base stout is a fine one. Not my favorite, but a happy memory.

The pour is stout black with a barely there light brown head which left no lacing at all.
The taste is considerably better than the previous “pie” variant that I had, but that’s a low bar. There’s a touch of apple, okay a bit more than a touch, but it somehow blends better with the base imperial stout. Thing is, apples and stouts rarely appear together in the same sentence with good reason.
The feel is typically Speedway, lightly viscous and a pleasant beverage to drink.
OA, I hoped for better, it’s good, just not Speedway good.

Canned 2025/10/13
Pours a frothy creamy 1/2 finger brown head with moderate retention, sticky lacing, jet black color, decent legs

Nose explodes with apple, some baked apples with cinnamon, but also a bit of artificial apple, vanilla, coffee, apple cider, boozy like apple brandy, no base stout left

Taste again brings a lot of apple again, baked apple pie filling, lots of cinnamon, like a lot of cinnamon, artificial apple and candy apple brandy like, syrupy, a touch of the roasted stout underneath, again the bitterness ramps up and clashes

Mouth is fuller bod, med carb, high boozy alcohol

Overall another mess, bleh, all fake flavoring and no real base beer anymore, this is not a beer, it is liquid artificial apple pie liquor
