At a local Greek Ethnic shop I found a few imports. Mythos is their go-to light lager, I have yet to try it because they only come in 6 packs. I also found a series of beers from Genesis. A Red Ale, a Weisse and a Lager. These came in singles so I bought one of each. The brewer is Hellenic Microbreweries. I can't tell if this is a contract brew or simply a line they put out, but I am pretty sure they do contract brewing so who knows what this is or how it made it to some shop in NJ.
This one is the "Premium Red Ale Beer". The description online talked about notes of caramel and fruit so I put it under the American classification, whether or not it fits here I'm not sure but this is the best I could figure.
11.9oz twist off bottle, 5% ABV. Best Before 28/02/2009 so this expired shortly before I bought it which I did not figure out until just now...oh well.
---
a - It is indeed red. Very clear deepish red with some orange and brown. Head was minimal on an aggressive pour.
s - Slightly funky. Some kind of fruitiness, caramel, and "lager".
t - Ooook. First it doesn't taste like much. Then a nutty caramel flavor begins to come through and quickly turns into...yams. This seriously tastes like sweet potatoes. Starchy and vaguely sweet. The flavor lingers and I really wish it wouldn't.
m/d - It's not all that thick or thin...so I'll go middle of the road on this score. As far as drinkability...none. I don't like to beat on beers and I really wanted this to be decent, but it legitimately tastes like sweet potatoes. It must have a large amount of some weird adjunct or something because this is not beer as I know it. Granted this is expired but by only 2 weeks. I want to say I'd like to try one fresh but really I don't. This experiment is off to a bad start.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
