This seems to have an odd sourish note from the first sip. Certainly not Quite sharp with a dishwatery finish. Unpleasant bitter aftertaste. I wouldn't call it a Bourbon flavor at all, more like the strange fruit of an Old Ale. Actually, after some sipping, it tastes like Coke with a little rum in it. Though spoiled by the bitter sting.

Can't fault the appearance. Color is dark red brown. Big foam the Chimay chalice, dark beige, long lasting. Overall a very doggy beer for 15 bucks. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a nice two finger khaki head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of slightly sweet dark toasted malt, mild dark dried fruit, bourbon and a hint of chocolate. Flavor starts with dark toasted malt, cocoa, bourbon and oak, then thins out somewhat to a lighter nutty toasted malt, finishing with some oaky, wood astringency and residual dark malt. Medium bodied with light creaminess and good carbonation. A nice porter base with an appropriate amount of wood and bourbon in the background. This 8% porter seems a little light for extended barreling and the finish seems a bit stark and astringent. Overall a nice oaky porter for their anniversary.

FYI, this is aged in bourbon barrels, I believe six months.

L: Light black-mahogany. Not a lot of head, no rings.

S: Smells great though, really light and sweet. You cant smell the alcohol at all. Bits of coffee in the nose.

T: Tastes like a decent porter, but the bourbon is really subtle. Smooth drinking and I got more coffee notes as is breathed.

F: Light mouth feel, pretty smooth drinking.

O: A great job for their first attempt at barrel aging. Its not a stong % but I still cant taste the alcohol whatsoever, really light drinking for how dark it is. Overall good, its worth a try and I dont drink a lot of porters.
