I tried this at the brewery. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had faint grain notes with bitter highlights. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a good beer.

Light sweet grain aroma, with a floral hint. Pours a clear straw with a thin white head. Light bodied, with a touch of malt sweetness in the beginning, fading to an earthy and floral hop notes. There's just a little bitterness in the end, which can leave this beer almost a bit too sweet for my tastes. Overall, a solid Helles with an entertaining name.

The Helles is both misunderstood and, in my opinion, one of the most difficult beer styles (particularly for American palates) to understand. It is also one of the most difficult to brew. That said, Black Cloister did a fantastic job with this one.

A: This one is a bright, slightly hazed light gold color, and it grows a thick, frothy bone-white head to just under a finger's height. It remains as a layer and falls slowly, dropping spotting and patches on the glass.
S: Lots of breads and pale fruits sweetness balance a light kiss of hops, grassy against the pale malts, which are allowed to shine through in the classic tradition.
T: This one is malty, letting lots of breads set the foundation with just the right amount of hops to keep it interesting. The difficulty of the style is staying clean in the flavor particularly, and this one does it. A light, crisp, clean finish ends it.
F: It's as light as it should be, crisp without overdoing the carbonation and staying dry rather than leaning sweet as American versions tend to. It's just light, crisp, clean, and smooth.

Little cloudy golden color, bitter "beer" without the hopp after taste.

Pours golden in color, lots of carbonation. Good head retention. Mild aroma. It's flavor is crisp and clean. Extremely crisp and extremely clean. I don't drink a lot of lagers, but I can say this is the best one I've had in a LONG time. For it's style, you'll have a tough time finding one better than this.
