Collaboration with Totenhopfen Brauhaus.

Imperial gose, brewed with rye, infusion of juniper branches and loads of fresh juniper berries in the mash. Beautiful rye gose as a base, fluffy and sweet feeling, estonian ryebread, tart but not acidic with enough of the salt to really give it a briny edge. The flavors here arent subtle at all, its intensely flavored. The juniper is strong and the salt dries it all up fast in the finish. Rye gives an nice sweetness. Just a little pucker at the end, a spruce and wood note from juniper branches.

Why Meteoro, rye and junipers? Because Saaremaa, Estonian biggest island is famous for Kaali kraater. Kaali is a group of nine meteorite craters in the village of Kaali in Saaremaa. Most estimates put its formation shortly after 1530-1450 BC. It was created by an impact event and it is on of the few inplct events that has ocurred in a populated area. In Saaremaa they make the best homemade sourdough ryebread, dark, with nice crust, malty and even bit sweet.

Pours a deep golden amber coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity, bready malt and juniper berries, as well as hints of peppery spice. Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of biscuity, bready malt and juniper berries, as well as some peppery spice and a heavy dose of sea salt. with a subtle underlying acidity. Finishes with a light acidity and some juniper and sea salt lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While this makes for a decent Gose, I had higher expectations of it and it left me a little disappointed, to be honest. The main problem is the high ABV and that this is way too salty, while the eponymous juniper and rye could also be a bit more pronounced here. The balance just seems a little off, with this also being too sweet and not quite tart and spicy enough, with the latter being something that I also expected more of from the rye malt, while the sweeter, biscuity malt seems to dominate here. While I did enjoy this overall, it just seems a bit too heavy, salty and sweet, with the juniper, while present, and rye malt not making quite enough of an impression here.
