Corner location, off street parking available. Kind of a weird setup inside. One spot for taking order for both food and drinks, so it can get backed up if crowded. No real visible taplist. Kind of a clunky ordering system. Seating area is split level (no bar) across three levels. Decent views from tier. Service was OK, not great. Beers were average. Fodd was pretty good.

Decent place near the University.

Kind of a weird layout with a center hangout/order a beer section, then lots of tables that go around and above along the windows. This must have been a restaurant at some point.

Quality was decent. I tasted an IPA first that was a bit bland, then had a smoked beer that was pretty tasty. The had a bunch of choices too, so the selection was quite nice.

Service was fine, but it felt like I was ordering beer at a fast food take out place.

Worth a stop, not sure I'd stop again the next time I'm in town though.

Elk Horn is a big, lodge-themed brewery that also has a bit of a sports bar feel. In fact, it's so orderly inside that you might guess it was a chain restaurant. They have 18 house beers on tap, though, plus a selection of ciders. Overall, the beers were decent if not mind-blowing; I was impressed that they had a tripel, though.

There's also a big outdoor seating area which would probably be awesome in the summer; less so on a rainy October night.

EHB has been open for a while now (since 8/14 I believe), so I figured that was long enough for them to hone down any rough edges. For instance, I think it was some months after opening that they actually started serving their own, brewed on premise beer.

In any event, I stopped in on a fairly quiet Saturday afternoon, right around 2:00. The layout is interesting here, with something of a split level dining room arrangment. The main floor, where you order your drinks, has a few tables and chairs, but the larger dining areas are down stairs and upstairs (good size outdoor dining area as well). The place has an informal vibe, with a number of stuffed animals and elk horn heads adorning the walls. They also have a few flat screen TV's as well, which on this day were turned to the NBA playoffs. The brewpub is very near the campus, and so I expect they probably get a sizeable crowd of duck fans during games.

As for the beer, they had something like 24 tap handles, 3 of which I gather are always devoted to ciders. For some reason they also had a couple of guest beers on tap, which today consisted of the C note from Lompoc brewing (EHB has a DIPA, but it's not very good, so maybe that explains the C note) and the Old No. 38 from North Coast in Ft. Bragg. The other 19 tap handles were pouring EHB beer, which included everything from a peach wheat and hefeweizen, to an imperial stout. On this day, I went with the taster flight, which gets you 5 beers (in 4.5 ounce tasters) for $10. Not too bad I thought. I decided to go with the experimental batch IPA #3 (the best beer I tasted; a very citrusy IPA), the yeti-corn RIS (a pleasant, if not particularly exciting RIS), the Samoa stout (a very weak attempt at a chocolate coconut stout - very light, thin and almost watery on the palate), the Double EUG (a malty, boozy, unbalanced hop bomb), and the Royalty Ducked (listed as a strong ale on the menu, but on the menu board it's described as a double pale ale. Mehhh... covers my impression of it very nicely). Frankly, other than the batch #3, I didn't taste anything that I'd be interested in getting a pint of, or ordering again.

Service was OK, such as it is. Drink orders are placed at a cash register on the main floor, and are poured on the spot (much like the Tap and Growler). Supposedly, there's table service for food orders, but I'm not sure it's restaurant wide. For the small table I was sitting at on the main floor, I had to place my food order at the register (a lot folks were doing the same thing). EHB wasn't all that busy (less than half full, with the upstairs area roped off), but even so, it took a while (at least 20 minutes or so) to get my nachos with ground elk. When it did come, it was pretty tasty, with a liberal dousing of spicy melted nacho cheese.

Shrug. Nothing at all wrong with this place, but there are a lot of solid beer bars and breweries/brewpubs in Eugene, and I didn't feel like this place really stood out. Was glad to be able to finally visit, but I'm not sure I can see myself coming back here again any time soon.
