750mL bottle acquired at the tasting room. 20.00. No identifiable bottling date. Served in an oversized Bruery snifter.

Pours a deep, opaque brownish orange with a fluffy finger and a half cap of manilla head. The froth settles to a milky haze and modest collar that imparts only a few slashes of lace.

The aromas of overripe, smashed pineapple and earthy hops dominate the nose. A tropical sweetness, some dank grass and caramel cake round out the nose.

Tastes of dank, grassy onion, bitter fruit skins, earthy pineapple right up front. There is a good bit of pineapple purée, rind and core. A distinct tropical juiciness that gets occasionally buried under Kritter's assertive dank bitterness remains the highlight.

Lush, velvety, medium feel with pillowy carbonation. Bitterish aftertaste of piney, dank pineapple hop cake.

Only a few years ago, on my last trip to the Keys, there were relatively few craft beer options. It's good to see a couple breweries on Marathon and more establishments serving what I consider to be better beer. Some solid work here by Florida Keys Brewing Company. Smelly Butt Pineapple IPA is a pleasantly tropical take on the base Kritter IPA.
