On-tap at the brewery and served in a pint nonic.

A: Dark copper pour with minimal off-khaki head.

S: Raspberry sweetness and malty undertone, bready and toasty at times.

T: Lots of fruity raspberry character but the malty brown ale character comes through, toasty and mildly nutty.

MF: Lighter body with a dry finish.

O: A good raspberry brown ale.

raspberry version of their excellent barnwood brown, done with local raspberries apparently. it looks a little lighter in the glass than the original, a pink hue just evident through the deep brown base, average off white head from the tap. it smells sweet more than tart from the fruit, but is quite obviously raspberry spiked, a chocolate covered sort of vibe with the darker malts in here makes it sort of seductive, more fruit than expected. the flavor is similar, cocoa dryness from the base beer balances the sweeter berries, which has a concentrated taste to me, but are fully compatible with the brown ale. i like how dry and clean the base beer is, and the raspberries break that down a little bit, its got a linger on the tongue and seems slightly more filling and less sessionable, but the flavors definitely work. just a little tang there at the end, a coffee hint, and very good carbonation to keep it from getting too heavy. overall very tasty, but i prefer the original, one of the best browns around, needs nothing!

Draft at the brewery.... Pours a hazy brown with a good off-white head.... Nose has an abundance of real berry aroma punctuated by some dry toast and even perhaps some cocoa essence from the darker malt... The residual maltiness accentuated and brings out the raspberry fruitiness... Very nice brew... Good body... I would happily have this one again.

Grunt fill from Albertsons. Body is a dark cola color, soft, but lasting tan head. Instant raspberry aroma, not much else cuts through the fruit scent. Taste adds a touch of dark malts and chocolate, blending perfectly with the raspberry taste. This one really comes together on the palate. Nicely done.
